JAY LENO

OMG, what was Jay Leno thinking?

In my opinion, two words describe it: train wreck.

To say the very least it was painful. The commercials seemed to be a respite from the show itself.

While his set imaginative, it is very uninviting, if not, somewhat awkward...or perhaps I'm showing my age but the interview set has the same feeling as the seating area one may find in a car dealership service department customer lounge. Only thing missing is the canteen machine that makes the fake coffee or hot chocolate.

The morning pundits and those in the entertainment critique field weren't so kind to Leno either. Most dubbed the show a carbon copy of Tonight in look and content. Time will tell but it seems to me as if NBC hasn't helped their cause with this show and may have even damaged Conan in the process.

Disclaimer: I seldom watched The Tonight Show after Carson left and almost never watched Leno.

NBC had to do something -- anything -- to keep Leno in the family, as with property as lean as it is, especially after the writer's strike.

It was better to keep him under contract than to lose him for good, since it was important to keep revenues flowing and 10 p.m. seemed a better slot to do something than nothing, especially with high priced drama or cheap (and lower rated) reality shows or a five night a week string of Dick Clark spinoffs.

It's "The Tonight Show - Lite Version" so far.
