Jay Mariotti To Replace Whitney Johnson

It looks like former Chicago Sun-Times sports columnist and ESPN Around The Horn panelist Jay Mariotti will take over the midday shift from Whitney Johnson at 1040 WHBO-AM on August 12.
 
Big time Chicago guy decides to semi-retire to Orlando... Maybe it works out and they simulcast him to Tampa... Maybe he realizes it's the minor leagues and he's gone in 3 months....
 
Newspaper guys dont make good radio guys in my opinion. Just look at the boring show with the 2 clowns from the st pete times on 620

Mariotti has done tons of radio, I believe he had a show on the old Sports Fan Radio network, may have also had a show in Chicago if I recall correctly. He has also been a panelist on various ESPN discussion shows.

I remember him having a show on One-on-One Sports.
 
ZERO IMPACT in the Tampa market...Stupid move..will not matter..station is last in the market and will remain and will not sell anything to local advertisers.

actually I do not...WDAE is the station I actually listen to...Very good talent and all the teams...no breaking news here.
 
So looking at some of the articles online about this, Mariotti is doing a self-syndication deal. The Genesis stations are affiliates.

This is more or less how Dan Patrick got his current show off the ground, now it's everywhere.
