JAY SEVERIN:No Show On Monday ?

Is Jay Severin still with 96.9 WTKK ?
Sean Hannity is on again without explanation.

Beyond that, the WTKK newsman said at 3 PM "stay tuned for Sean Hannity." Not Sean Hannity in for Jay Severin. And Sean Hannity didn't say as he usually did when subbing for Severin, "I am in today for my friend Jay Severin."

When will Howie Carr be commenting on this on his show?

I noticed this too (and mentioned it below). Put on 96.9 expecting to hear Jay comment on all this, but I heard Hannity's voice.

Hannity may not be aware that WTKK is running the feed live. Also it's not unusual for a newscaster to mention the name of the substitute host but not the regular
host: on 'RKO I heard them saying "stay tuned for VB here on WRKO" not
"stay tuned for VB in for Howie" But things that make you go hmmm.
File under: Live And Loco*.

*--not as in "crazy" but as in the Latin word (IIRC) for "place", as in
"Sean is in PLACE of Jay today"

FLASH: SEVERIN MAY NOT BE BACK AT 96.9 !!!

Egan and Braude took the last hour of Jay Severin's show tonight from 6P to7P after Hannity's show ended.
Called to get on and was told that they were not sure Jay Severin would be back

I did hear Howie make a snide remark sometime between 4:06 and 4:25 on the subject.

The plot thickens! Any of a number of things could be going on:

--Jay could be on a small "vacation"--perhaps he's owed vacation time by
Greater Media, or he's preparing for his new syndie show (but that isn't
till January), or he's avoiding the media, or...

--WTKK may have fired him (in which case he may be owed Severin pay, er, I
mean severance pay! Sorry, couldn't resist...

--Jay may have "resigned"--knowing that 'TKK may not be renewing his contract,
he's just leaving early.

who knows..

BRW: Jay Excedrin on WBZ?

The new Boston Radio Watch
says maybe we SHOULDN'T discard the possibility of Severin winding up
on The News Station...maybe it would encourage other stations to pick up
the show. What would they do, run Jay 7-9 or 7-10 pm, let's say, then have
Sully on 9-mid or 10-mid? Jay might be a bit more brash than the usual
'BZ host (Sully, Leveille, Rich, Dyett)...and 'BRW also speculates that should
Greater Media _not_ pick up the new Severin show, and possibly would let Imus
go, there could be some BIG lineup changes at 96.9

To the tune of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego Theme" by Rockapella:

Well, he travels 'round the world from Boston down to Sag Harbor
He'll soon by syndicated daily by Infinity
In his place these days we're hearing from the Sean Hannitizer
Tell me--
Where in the world is--
JIMMY SEVERINO?

Usually when Pawn Vanity is scheduled to appear over Flat-Top, they run spots where he says something to the effect of "I'm in for my good friend Jay Severin." Not this time, though, unless anyone else heard them?

I was surprised to hear Ego and Rowdy at 6, since usually they play Flat-top highlights from 6 to 7 when Flat-top is out.

Tuned in just to see what was going on during the 6p hour last night. They were still playing spots voiced by Severin. I know it's hard to get those things revoiced to the sponsor's approval quickly, if indeed he's gone. Maybe Greater Media wants to keep us hanging and having everyone tune in today to see who's on the air, sort of a talk version of stunting.

in the meantime we can continue making fun of their names! "Ego and Rowdy"?
Mine was "Meagre and Lousy". "Sean Vanity" is credited to Michael Sewage,
er, Savage...and someone here says "Pawn Vanity".

Even if he is gone, don't expect the website to change until something definitely has been worked out...in most cases when a decision has been made to replace
someone, they don't amend the website till the change actually happens (like
at WHJJ where it still said "Jerry Springer" even though people knew a couple
days in advance that Helen Glover would be starting...then once she did start,
they updated the webpage. Are things still in flux? If not, maybe they'll
amend the webpage and start doing promos ("Hey Boston, this is Sean Hannity.
You can now hear me weekdays at 3 pm"--but again, nothing has been announced
and nothing has been decided, I'm just saying IF...)

Severin over Hannity Any Day

I would take Jay Severin, warts and all, any day over Sean Hannity.

Re: Severin over Hannity Any Day

Vice versa; I can't take Severin's voice or pomposity/attitude. Hannity's entertaining, if a bit repetitive at times. And I like Howie best of all. I went to his website and downloaded his appearance at the Ford Hall forum, talking about the book on the Bulgers.

Thanks for the tip, I'm gonna go download that now!

Re: Jay Severin

I think the time of day his new nationally-syndicated show is broadcast in will determine where Jay Severin winds up on the radio dial after the first of the year.

If his show is broadcast live during the daytime hours, it will stay on WTKK-96.9.

If his show is broadcast live during the evenings or overnights, it will be heard of WBZ-1030, which like his new show, is owned by Infinity.

The reason I think a live daytime broadcast will end up on WTKK is two-fold: (1) I can't see WBZ changing it's successful all-news during the daytime hours format, and (2) Jay Severin's show is currently on WTKK anyway, and if WBZ can't accomodate a live daytime broadcast, you can bet WTKK will, and 96.9 FM Talk will even go as far as to adjust their program lineup to be able to pick-up his national show live.
