Jay Severin Returning To Boston

Doesn't anybody read Radio and Records any more? They are reporting that Jay Severin's national gig is nearing an end and that he'll be returning to WTKK-FM Talk 969's frequency (but not its studios) on October 9th in his former time slot, 3:00 to 7:00 pm M-F. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND VERIFICATION OF THIS STORY ANYWHERE ELSE! If this is true...first alert Scott Lehigh at the Globe,; then ask whether Michael Graham will be yet another Boston media figure (Mikey we hardly knew ye) to exit the crowded Boston media market, or will he eventually be found in another time slot at the station?
 
Was he ever really 'in' Boston? I think that whole thing was a charade. Didn't he broadcast out of a facility in LawnGisland.?

Are "hearing" that R&R is reporting this?

Or did you see it in R&R? What issue? What page? What URL?
 
Excuse me but where does it say that his syndicated show is comming to an end? I did not see that anywhere in the story. All it indicates is he is going to do a show specifically for WTKK, (where's been airing syndicated anyway).

I think you mis quoted the story.
 
Garrett may be on to something. If we look at the article and take it just on the words on the page, there's nothing saying the national show is out.
It would surprise me to hear of Severin, in effect, doing two separate shows, but it wouldn't be a first. Would it?
As for his location, Jay broadcast his 96.9 local show from Long Island last time around, with limited physical ventures up this way. Most likely that wouldn't change.
 
according to the 96.9 web site his 3 to 7 show will be live local and exclusive to Boston. i think that would imply he's still going to be national. and it also says he will be relocating to boston.

also michael Graham will be moved to the 7 to 10 time slot.

Sure, he's back in Boston but the national show apparently was less than a year. But maybe that was
a tough time slot (he only got a few stations, and in lots of places you had Savage ruling the roost of
the political zoo...I think in Philly--or maybe we should be more formal and say "Phillip"--the local
NL baseball team pre-empted him a lot...)

Or does he do 7 hours a day, first Boston then national? Naahhhhhhhhh.

The national show didn't do anything. He did great in afternoon drive before, he'll do it again.
 
I just don't get why people like Severin so much. The man is a pompus windbag who I believe should be in the minor leagues. Here's some of my reasons why...

1. Pretended to live in the Boston area when he actually lived in Sag Harbor, New York.
2. Pretended to be a single playboy type, when he actually is married and has children.
3. Claimed to have won a Pulitzer prize and he actually didn't.
4. Fired from CNBC's Tucker Carlson show due to some undisclosed incident with rumors of some sort of hassasment being involved and then said that he quit the job because the commute was too long.
5. Made some anti-Islamic remark on the air. Backed down from it when the heat was turned on and then got on the air and told the audience that he did not back down.
6. Worked at WRKO, jumped to WTKK and then trashed WRKO.
7. Abandoned WTKK when the syndication thing came along and comes running back now that it isn't working out quite the way that he wanted.


Basically, the man is a phony. If he lied about all of the above items, why should we believe that he tells the truth about anything else. I had been listening to Grahmn on the way home, but now it looks like I'll be listening to Sirrius instead.

I suspect that this post will be deleted rather quickly, since the moderators on this board don't seem to like to take any heat, but I hope that it doesn't because there isn't one thing that I list that isn't well known and documented in other places.
 
In today's Globe, it was mentioned that Mike Barnicle would not be a FM Talk much longer. If they were smart, they would move Eagan and Baude to the 10 till noon spot. Then carry O'Reilly live from Noon to 2 pm. Then, start Jay Severin at 2 and run him till 6 pm. And since Michael Graham is most likely under contract for a 4 hour show...run him 6-10 pm.

6-10 Imus in the Morning
10-12 Eagan and Braude
12-2 The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly
2-6 Extreme Games with Jay Severin
6-10 Michael Graham

A --really-- smart station would be local & live in morning drive!
 
I tried to get into Severin but somehow I couldn't--other than in small doses. He did come clean about the
"real last name, really broadcasting from Sag Harbor" deal though on one of his first shows he did for CBS/W1,
when someone confronted him about things like his wife's first name he pretended he had never heard of
a woman by that name, etc., and he sounded arrogant. (Yeah, private details about his life, but he's a public figure and can wind up in gossip column, etc.)

and called Globe writer Scot Lehigh "Scat He-Lies" when confronted with these facts; brushed
aside the veracity of the Pulitzer claim

Had claimed when he left WRKO that he needed more free time--thanks to having several jobs, he just didn't have time to walk his dogs on the beach any more, etc. Methinks he had a deal brewing with GM to
move to WTKK...
And when he did wind up on 'TKK, he referred to "AM talk radio" (guess who) as "passing gas radio"
(the actual word he used was bleeped out by this board. Hint: Beans, beans, good for your heart, the
more you eat, the more you...)

Yes.
For the record Howie also didn't quite make it nationally so now he's regional--New England only. One
problem: He's in same time slot as popular Hannity. Another: Boston/regional references like Menino.
Too local/regional to be national though those outside N.E. can still hear him online.

7 year deal from GM for Severin? All that money they were gonna spend on the Red Sox had to go somewhere.

The article does say Graham gets bumped to nights...that Jay will be moving to the North Shore...
that $500,000 is what GM paid to CBS/W1 for Severino to get out of his deal early.

Ive been told that Greater MEdia Bought out his contract :)o) with the intention of making him live and local and exclusive. That seems like a lot of dough to spend to save afternoons at a sattion with otherwise arguably the worst line up of any "fm talk" station in the country.
 
Isn't the 'TKK --- management --- the real problem here? So many stupid mistakes.

anyone who runs the shady hot dog man(i don't care if it's a bought time show) on their schedule, doesn't know the first thing about radio. now, they're bringing the real fraud back to boston. they already have the tax evader in the morning, a plagarist with a womanizer in the midday, an alleged sexual harasser in the early afternoon. effin' great line-up. if idiots could fly, greater media's corporate offices would be an airport....

we know wrko audience is made up of mostly state workers, private sector slackers and nursing home patients, but who are these no-lifers who write in wtkk in their arbitron diary?
