Jay Severin's racist guitar comments today

I think Severin said only white guys can play the blues. Did I hear correctly?
It didn't seem to be just in passing, it really was borderline racisim a la Rush Limbaugh's comment on
Donovan McNabb.

Not only are his politics skewed but - like Howie Carr flubbing it with Diana Ross & Davey Jones - he shouldn't go there where he knows nothing, less than Sgt. Schultz!

He cited how eloquent Leslie West and Eric Clapton are....duh...yeah, go read my reviews, Jay.
I've met the blokes, have you?

Also, having produced Buddy Guy in 1986/1987, I have to agree with Eric Clapton that Buddy Guy is the greatest living electric guitarist on the planet (and that's when I met Clapton - at the Limelight in Chicago, 4/19/87 when
Phil Collins played drums, two members of Cheap Trick, Robert Cray and Eric all playing with Buddy.)

Severino can only dream about being with these greats... Shouldn't someone write a script for him?
As soon as he comes on the air after Eagen & Braude the station changes...

I CAN'T STAND SEVERIN (oh, and before I zapped him, he said something about wanting three women at once...that was it...STATION CHANGE)

He really said that? My God, some people will say anything to fill up airtime. That's just stupid! Coming from a blues fan, that's just pure blasphemy.

So is he saying that Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, and Jimi Hendrix can't play the blues as good as Leslie West? Sure, Clapton is great. So is Stevie Ray Vaughan. And let's not forget that none of them would even be around if it weren't for one Robert Johnson. Oh, and Johnson is black, in case Severin has never heard of him. Which, judging by his musical knowledge, is highly likely.

Good gawd, I just can't take you people anymore....

JOe - we're all naturally jealous that you got to hang with those people in the day, but I'm not sure that it invalidates Jay's right to be muscially provocative! What the fudge.

Until you have a transcript of what he said, all this is speculation.

I don't really care who anyone else thinks is the best blues guitarist. I have my own favorites. And anyone who thinks only a certain race can do something is a moron at best ???

His job (like a number of other talk show hosts) appears to be to get ratings by saying things that generate controversy by getting some people upset. It looks like he's succeeding.

That's why I don't listen. I don't feel like getting upset by a talk show host. There's enough other stuff happening in real life to get upset about.
