Jay-Z Featuring Kanye West Otis

I heard "Otis" and immediately thought is was the bomb digity ;). It's sure become a huge staple on Power 106 playlist like the rest of Jay-Z's records. Let's start on the east coast in Jay-Z home town New York City, the song is in constant rotation at Rhythmic WQHT Hot 97, Urban WWPR Power 105.1. While in here in Los Angeles KPWR Power 106 is responding well to the track and KPWR jock DJ Felli Fell spun it twice on July 20th during "The Power 7@7. It sounds hip hop is back from the dead. Do you love it or hate it? Hit me up. Great summer song.

The somg is OK, but damn HOT 107.9 here in ATL is killing it in EVERY mixshow.
@shawtyblackATL It's a hot hit though. It gives you a break from the awful ingorant rapping skills from Gucci Mane, Lil' Wayne, Souljah Boy and Hurricane Chris. Everytime I hear this joint, I think of NYC's Time Square, Harlem. Dang this song makes me want to go back to New York so bad for my 18th Birthday. Hot 97 & Power 105.1 in NYC is murdering this track and so is Power 106 in Los Angeles, Q104.7 in Oxnard and KGGI in Riverside out here on the westcoast. It's getting support in San Fransico with the help of KMEL 106 and KYLD Wild 94.9. This is mos def a banger.

Im sure HOT 107.9 and V103 here in da A will run it in the ground until the JayZ/Kanye concert hits town. Haven't heard WILD 105.7 playing it even though I don't listen to them.

They also have an collabo album coming out soon.

I would never include Lil Wayne in this list. I think his skills have gotten better, lyrically. It's just unfortunate that he may not have the best voice for singing / rapping and the autotune only helps sometimes, depending on how it is used and how much effect they put on his voice. I haven't heard from Hurricane Chris or Soulja Boy for a while. Gucci's still lurking around..

I was in LA the day that "everybody" world premiered "Otis". Lil Wayne would've "murdered" the track if he added a verse in (and made the song longer than the short song it currently is) and I'm sure Eminem would've done his thing as well. Maybe even Andre 3000 could've been on it. Nicki Minaj would work, too, but I'd prefer the other artists I mentioned earlier over Nicki in this case. Pitbull could be the one to get on it and bring it over to the latin rhythmic side for stations like "La Kalle" or KXOL and get Puerto Rican's in the mix of all the hype for this record.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that it's receiving attention in Tucson as well. I just find it funny what makes it here. Big Sean's "Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay" is ALREADY in rotation here. I checked and even Phoenix isn't on that one yet! Not to mention the more well known urban and rhythmic stations of the U.S. who are also not playing that.

Why Pitbull. He's on everybody's song these days. He's on DJ Felli Fell's Bommerang, Usher's DJ's Got Us Falling In Love, etc. I actually like Lil' Wayne's How To Love and get this he's not using autotune on that joint.

Pitbull's on a lot of faster tracks nowadays, but not many slower hip hop ones anymore. He can also flow on slower beats, and he would murder the Otis track from a latin hip hop point of view! He'll take that song and get it some Caribbean / Central American (and possibly even South American) attention.

"How to love" is one track from him I don't really like too much. The instrumental is ok, but I don't like his voice on that track.

Even KJLH is big on Lil' Wayne's How to Love. Now that station confuses me. They play R&B! Gospel! Classic Soul! Smooth Jazz and Hip Hop. Were you living in L.A. when KJLH was called Rhythm 102.3 KJLH. From what I heard it had a Mainstream Urban format and Frankie Ross was PD thus trying to compete with 92.3 The Beat. Do you remember that time? If you do hit me up with the years the rhythm positioner was used and the songs they had in high rotation.

I always remembered KJLH as an R&B station, based on past LA experiences. It was only during my last visit that I became so confused with them because they no longer sounded like the true R&B station they were back in the late 90's early 00's. I also remember there being another r&b station that leaned more old school. That was back during the days when LA had stations with a more "well defined" sound and 92.3 The Beat (later known as 100.3 The Beat) was sounding like a true urban and Power 106 LA's Party Station sounded like a fun rhythmic. Then there was 1-3.1 Groov Radio which was dance and 99.1 KGGI which was a very dancey rhythmic and 102.7 KIIS FM which was a fun chr. Then there was Jammin Z90 which sounded very urban during the later 90's and played a lot of hip hop and r&b WITH booty bass. Q104.7 played bass remixes in regular rotation, similar to the late 90's WHTA, but their weekend night mix shows were electro.

I think I went a little too far with these descriptions and slid off topic, but yes, I do remember the days of enjoying real, current r&b flavour on 102.3 and learning new hip hop & reggae flavours on 100.3 The Beat. I still miss B100.3, though... I also remember hearing a lot of Too Short and "never leave me alone" by Nate Dogg on Power 106, and I remember the ALL DECEMBER MIX for Christmas that Power 106 did in 1996 and the drops that Lina Santiago did/helped with for the station. I also liked the old school mix on Sundays on Power 106, and the Rock Meets Hip Hop show that followed, although I wasn't the biggest fanatic of the whole short lived rock & hip hop craze that took place in the very late 90's before the Spice Girls came in and created a whole new pop trend (that The Backstreet Boys later perfected..)

In addition to that, I also vaguely remember the smooth r&b mixes they had on KJLH, and... I also remember the fist day I discovered KDAY, which was the "Old school New school station", and how they played everything from old and new school hip hop all together. I don't remember exactly when they became ALL old school though, since I wasn't in LA for much of the mid 00's.

Flash forward to now and everything's changed. The only station that I feel actually improved out of all places I lived is WVEE. Oh, and of course, Phoenix did "come up" as well and now actually looks like a major market from a radio point of view. We have three stations now (as oppose to only one) what would be willing to play "Otis".

In 1995-96 Too Short's Gettin it was big on Power 106 and so was Nate Dogg Never Leave Me Alone. KJLH has changed alot since the 90's. In 1995-96 KJLH be the place hear Maxwell's Till The Cops Come Knockin, D'Angelo's Lady & Brown Sugar, Jon B.'s Someone to Love(Feat Babyface), Eric Benét's Let's Stay Together and Faith Evans while showing love to much older artist like Lionel Richie who had a hit that year called Don't Wanna Lose You and was in high rotation at KJLH. 92.3 The Beat was station to hear Brandy I Wanna Be Down, Luniz I Got 5 On It, Junior MAFIA Players Anthem and Total's No One Else. 5:00am-10:00am John London & The House Party, 10:00am-2:00pm Diana Stelle & The Wheels of Stelle, 2:00-7:00 Theo Mizuhara, 7:00pm-11:00pm Julio G & DJ Melo-D and 11:00pm-2:00am The Night Beat with Kevin Nash before him it was Lisa Canning as host. Remember that line up?

Side Note: This thread is about Jay-Z & Kanye West "Otis" not how radio was back in the day. Be on the look out for their collabo album entitled Watch The Throne.

I was wrong.. just checked again and a lot more stations are using "Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay", including Phoenix. I don't see much "Otis" going on in Phoenix, though.
