Jaycee Dugard shown on TV?

Did anyone see The Insider on Monday? I believe they showed Jaycee Dugard, apparently at the reunion with her mother. They only showed her for a split second, but she certainly looked like the adult version of the child whose photo and video we have seen on TV for the last several days. I looked on their website trying to find this same footage, but was unable to do so.

I don't watch that show - but so far the media have been respecting this poor woman's privacy. She needs to be left alone until the time she decides she wants to go public. Unfortunately, some guerilla paparazzi a-hole will probably managed to get a full face shot of her, and then she'll become a 'celebrity' of sorts - gawked at by people in public who recognize her.

Does anyone remember hearing about this back when the abduction occurred? I realize it was quite a while ago, but I must have been under a rock. I honestly don't remember this story... at the very least I don't think it got the same coverage at the time as the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping.

I watched a psychologist on one of the news commentaries who said she should completely shun all TV appearances and grant no interviews. I just hope her privacy is, indeed, respected and the paparazzi doesn't turn this into another Octomom media frenzy. Just a horrendous story, and it's unimaginable what Jaycee and her family went through every day for 18 years.

You must have been "under a rock," but not for that long. While the kidnapping of Ms. Dugard was 18 years ago, it only recently came to light because the kidnapper's behavoir seemed suspicious to a UC Berkeley police officer. That was just a week or 10 days ago.

I don't recall if the original kidnapping got much media coverage 18 years ago, but it might not have. These stories have gotten much more coverage in recent years due to the Megan's Law warning systems, and greater media interest in abducted children - not to mention the proliferation of the 'crime watch' anchors like Nancy Grace, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Adam Walsh.

FOX news and MSNBC did not yet exist at that time. I can only conclude that the murder of Jonbenet Ramsey brought stories like this to the forefront of national news attention.

I remember hearing about a little girl in Tennessee who disappeared back in 1987, and has not been seen since, save for unconfirmed "sightings." These stories got regional, but not national, news attention back then. The recent developments in the Dugard case make me wonder anew about whatever happened to that girl. She would be 26 now, if she is still alive.

Slightly OT, also from 1987... wasn't there a jetliner crash near the Detroit airport that year in which the only survivor was a 4yo girl (Cecile IIRC was her name, and I forget the last name)? Any SE Michiganders know what became of her?
She would be 26 now as well.

The lone survivor of the aircraft was four-year-old Cecelia Marie Cichan of Tempe, Arizona. Her married name is Lumpkin. More on her life: http://www.wzzm13.com/print.aspx?storyid=79431
