Jazz on Sacramento Radio

I'll be in Sacramento for a few days next month for the jazz festival, and was wondering if I'll be able to find any jazz on the radio? I'm hoping there will be some real jazz, not that washed out "smooth jazz" stuff.

Thanks for your help.

There will be a SacJazz Festival kickoff concert Thursday night, May 21st, at The Radisson Hotel, that KXJZ will broadcast...check out the CapRadio link above for details....

If you're a serious jazz fan, I'd check out KXJZ late nights when the programming comes from Bob Parlocha, rather than the local picks.....the music tends to swing much, much more, and, although KXJZ’s local jazz programming is not as boring & repetitious as it was a few years ago, at least you don’t hear the same 50 tunes over and over with Parlocha, who used to be MD at the old KJAZ in The Bay Area. Much greater variety of artists and performances.

Sadly, JZ doesn't go to Parlocha until after 11:00pm, but with public stations cutting staffs, too...well, one can hope....

I'm familiar with Bob Parlocha, he airs around here on WGBH Boston. Definitely plays good stuff. But I also enjoy listening to local people when I travel to get some of the local flavor.

I'm also going to be in the Truckee/Lake Tahoe region after I go to Sacramento, I seem to recall that some of the Sac stations have repeaters there. Is that the case with KXJZ?

Personally I'd love to hear Wade Latin on the radio again. He used to do a jazz show on KZAP in the days before Western Cities bought them. It was a pretty cool show...
