JCE cluster sold

Sale is underway for James Crystal's Phoenix cluster, consisting of KXXT 1010 and KXEG 1280, along with a Florida station the group owns. Sale price of reportedly $20 million.

Wonder what this means for upward-bound KXXT's liberal talk format?

I hope it continues as is. I can get it down in Tucson, and until CC wakes up and puts progressive talk on a lowly rated am here, That's all I have to listen to. I also listen to it on the net at www.kxxt1010.com/

I wouldn't be surprised if there were no changes. KXXT at least shows up in the ratings, which is more than they got as the "old" KXEG or their pre-Air America incarnation. I would guess they make a little money.

As for 1280, preacher tapes may not get ratings, but they do pay the bills. There's not much else to do with that signal.

While I would tend to think there will be tweaks but no huge changes in Phoenix, CC's incentive to put libtalk on is small if not nonexistent. Cool does well enough, and Tejano gets good enough numbers so high up on the dial considering there are Spanish FMs in the market. Even the Jolt is up recently.

Sold, along with a decent looking 25kW station in West Palm, to the same religious outlet that owns WLNO/New Orleans... the station that, in the midst of Katrina hitting land with 150 mph winds, was airing a health infomercial.

Legend_city may soon have a new "worst station ever".

From what I've read about the new owners, it would be surprising if they did keep liberal talk on KXXT, ratings/revenue or not. Unless they have plans on selling KXXT to someone else and just keep KXEG (or move the pay-for-pray back to the stronger 1010 signal and sell off 1280).

Now, who would pick up Air America and Ed Schultz if 1010 did revert back to its long-time Christian format?

I'll guess that Air America will be looking for a new home soon. Will CC blow the "Soothing Sounds For Senior Citizens" on KOY out of the water in favor of AAR?
