I heard today that J.D. Cannon was let go from WFMS today...anyone have any info?

I heard it as well, but can't confirm it. Rob Reel is on rather than JD. If true, wonder if he's already on his way to the Circle?

Word is that it's already on WTHR.

Check out what they're saying on the Facebook page of the now-defunct Cannon show:

"JD - You will be missed on air at WFMS. You are one of the best !"

"I just heard the news on channel 13 news. "

"Can't believe you're gone. Not sure what is going on at that station these days."

We all know what's happening: Cume-adel.

I am a friend of Darren Tandy on FB. Saw this today. Sad. Looks like he had a contract juncture that would allow them to not renew him. Wonder how long his con compete is in our right to work State?

I am thinking that you will likely hear JD back on the air somewhere as soon as possible. Perhaps in some manner on WIBC. Maybe that will fit him? Pure speculation.

I just can't imagine someone that has been this popular for this long in this market being allowed to sit idle for too long.

HANK???

His new radio home will be Monument Circle. That's the natural path of many that have worked on Shadeland.

Not sure EMMIS can afford him at this point - read in the industry trades earlier that EMMIS just got done renegotiating with yet another note-holder to stave off some upcoming due dates [at some expense percentages]. JD's contract was hefty [at least in this market] - not sure he would want to settle for anything substantially less than what he was making, unless he's pissed enough - then he might sell himself short [to EMMIS] for a V for vendetta against Cumulus .

It's not unusual for people with big salaries to take big pay cuts lately, because very few companies are paying newly hired people huge salaries anymore. The popularity of an on air person does have a lot to do with the popularity of the station they appear on. Ryan Seacrest does well on strong stations and not as well on not so strong stations.

Indiana is not a Right to Work state, which doesn't mean what you think it means.

Indiana IS an At-Will Employment state.

Indiana is a Right to Work State. The documentation on Indiana being a Right to Work State is from the 1950's when the laws were approved. Most people confuse this term with the recent legislation called a new Right to Work Law.

An article in time magazine called us "Indianans" and confused the Governor's name.

As a history major and cultural geography minor, we are "Indianans." "Hoosier" is a derogatory term still used in parts of the U.S (most commonly in the St. Louis region).

Now, mixing up the Gov's name, that's just bad research and writing.

1988 Los Angeles Times

As with all residents of Indiana, Republican Sen. Dan Quayle, by definition, is a Hoosier. A very proud one. But that is exactly what has Quayle's dander up these days. Webster's Third New International Dictionary defines "Hoosier" as "an awkward, unhandy or unskilled person, especially an ignorant rustic." And, as a verb, the dictionary says, the word means "to loaf on or botch a job." Tough stuff to a proud Hoosier. Quayle dispatched a letter to William A. Llewellyn, president of Merriam-Webster Inc., publisher of the dictionary, calling on him to revise the definition. "Nowhere in my great state will you find someone who considers a Hoosier an awkward, unhandy, unskilled or ignorant rustic," Quayle wrote. He has even offered his own definition: "Someone who is quick, smart, resourceful, skillful, a winner, unique and brilliant."
