I still think that Hank missed the boat by not bringing the Country Lovin' nightly request show over. The market expected a live local show in that time slot & when WFMS rolled out the syndicated stuff, Hank could probably have pulled a passionate, faithful audience away from 95-5.
he either didn't have a non-compete or it ran out or it didn't hold up..
what? hey, did anyone NOT see this comming, Indianapolis has a way of Re-cycling air talent don't they...
sorry dude, you must be part of the 5% that didn't get Re-Cycled
i'm sure if i or you for that matter were pressed, could name SEVERAL people who have bounced around 2 or more stations in the market in fact you worked with a couple, "Pidge", Scott Roddy to name two.
Scott Wheeler jobbed at WNDE too, he and Brother Barry were the only survivors of the massacre of '76
Super Cooper did a round at WFBQ ... "Coop and Carri" in the morning
Smash ... NAP and ZPL (it was KISS), back at the re-incarnated NAP
Dave Dugan, NAP, ZPL/Kiss (Smash & Dave in the morning), WFBQ, X103, ... with stints at WERK muncie
if you dig a little deeper Scott Wheeler may hold the ALL TIME RECORD for station jumping in Indianapolis. i think most people who left Indianapolis radio, did it because they didn't like the place or they found better opportunities elsewhere, but the odds are good that IF you are working Radio in indianapolis, you can continue working there nearly forever. same could be said of Chicago radio, that list is long.
fred winston, larry lujack, mancow, landecker, steve dahl and more.
The problem in getting outside market talent is that people want to return to their "hometown" and the people constantly returning are from here. Not a bad thing.
The back in the day thing had rotations to the farm team at Evansville. Wheeler was the original Wheeler in Evansville at WGBF. Glenn Webber was in Evansville also for a time. I think it may have been WGBF, but may have included another station.
I had the best time in both markets. Worked as a jock twice at WGBF then returned as Engineer. Worked at WNAP and WENS as a jock then returned as engineer. The transition from jock was from the 45 days to cart then cart to CD and now of course my favorite...digital. I just compiled a 25k song library on part of a hard drive. How many Scully 15 inch reels is that?

WANTING to return to your hometown and actually getting the chance to do it are two different things.. my point, whoever is (or was)in charge of hiring people in Indy past or present seem to put "Hometowners" at the front of the pack, it isn't always the case in other markets, or i wouldn't have been employed for several decades, in other markets around the country. i worked in Indy in the 70's, i was born &
raised there, at one time it was important to get back there(my parents were getting on and had health issues) but it hasn't been important to me for 20 years or better.[/i] the problem then was usually the re-cycling of jocks who were already there going to another station in town and the job taken up... Good for them, their journey didn't take them so far.
in the last 15 years Ed Wank has done hard/alternative rock (103.3)...teenpop/rap (93.1)..hot AC (97.1)..country (97.1) and now news talk (93.1). At least one other listed here has done an equally wide range of formats.
