JD Hayworth leaves KFYI

Note to PD Smokey........ what are you doing to that station? People are leaving in droves because it dosent have the teeth anymore. Not sure of the vision you are going for, but if this is the direction, you can count on bringing up the rear in the ratings. Just my opinion.

The Buckeye Boyz couldn't agree more with Average Joan's observation. After listening to both Broomhead and Gilberg in AMD, Nurse Jeff and I miss Bruce Jacobs even more. If it wasn't for The Nearly Bald One and El Rushbo, we'd be off 5~Fifty as well. KFWhyEye lost its cajones when the Chick Boss left town.

First, somewhat on the topic, I have always quietly been cheering for JD Hayworth on the radio. I love how it bothered so many of you that he had a show and that every genius here predicted he would be off the air in six months... meanwhile, he actually flourished in the time slot--stranger still because his show really isn't my cup of tea, but certainly better than the competition (which isn't saying much unfortunately).

KFYI is once again in a bad place in a couple of key timeslots; AMD (5a-7a) and PMD (4p-7p). Terry Gilberg mostly reads from the newspaper, rarely takes calls and gives very basic reactionary opinion rather than doing much in the way of in-depth analysis. There isn't much passion there, which is sorta key for an entertaining talk show. Mike Broomhead... seems like a Hell of a nice guy and is a tad more passionate than Gilberg, but it's segmented hours of specific topics and sounds way too much like KTAR's near trademarked "what do you think, give me a call" type of broadcasting.

The Barely Famous Nearly Young is still the best local talk show host--in spite of the shtick and 35 year old sound effects. While I'm not really into Rush Pill-box or Hanity, they are still ratings juggernauts. You have five important hours of the day that need some real work at KFYI... I'll be sure to prepare a "T&R" ...

I am sure Terry is a very nice person but I feel like I am listening to a school teacher. As for Broomhead, boy.....hard to hold my attention. The morning drive especially is supposed to wake you up, make you laugh. If the PD were smart he would try to get Jacobs back in the chair, bring back the teeth for pete's sake.

Gilberg seems nice, but is really screechy, Broomhead is too much redneck "hold muh beer" angry white guy talk.

Barry still the best, but Michelle has to go, on a good day she rises up to the level of vapid. Bored rich housewife blathering on about things she doesn't know about. Its killing the show.

Gilberg's a bore - i would assume she's just filler til they find someone better. But i bet its hard trying to land a deal with anyone worth a poo 2 hrs a day, weekdays, starting at 5am.

You all think nearly famous would expand the show? again? haha.

I tend to agree with KOHS. Austin Hill would have been an excellent choice for either PMD, or that early morning time slot 5-7am after Bruce Jacobs exited. He sounds good filling-in for Ankarlo at KTAR FM, but frankly he's a better fit for KFYI.

And as much as Barry Young and Cruella Michella talk about Hill on their show (I have often heard them talk about the columns he writes, his books, etc...), it seems that those two actually like Hill, and that the three of them could have worked well back-to-back on air.

But Jacobs is gone, and now JD hayworth. Both of those people probably commanded pretty good sized salaries. And their replacements are inexperienced, and, no disrespect to them, probably can't command big salaries. So Clear Channel has replaced two big salaries with two probably small salaries. That is how Clear Channel spells success.

Is Bruce Jacobs even available? Well if the bottom line is what is guiding this guy, or he just dosent have a clue........either way enjoy the bottom KFYI. That's really too bad, really liked that station.

Must be too busy voice tracking for KYOT to listen to 5~Fifty! Anyway, the Nurse and I doubt any Clear Channel PD has the backing of mgmt to make the kind of changes that capture listeners. KFWhyEye is no exception.
