KTAR has finally hired someone loaded with attitude. This new guy in afternoons is more aggressive than KTAR has been. What a change from McBland.

This guy already sounds better on his first day than JD. Not that that's very hard to do.
 
i like mac. he'll do well in this town, imo.

ktar's hi-energy production sounds good too.

for extended news, i'll have to go online or 91.5.
 
He sounds like KFYI did when they used to stir it up. Its so strange to hear someone on KTAR be more in your face than the person on at the same time at KFYI.
 
Well, he is better than Aunt Carlos, his show is less contrived and he sounds far less phony than Darryl.

I'll give him a few more listens, but Hugh is on now at same time.

Wow, from nothing to 2 shows in one week.

It was KT'R that lost the first round with a weak lineup against JD Blowworth. While Mac makes TMISU competitive in PMD, Glenn Beck aint the answer for midday. Not a good handoff from Aunt Carlos and lame against the Rush-Hannity Hydra on KFWhyEye. Nurse Jeff and I can't help but noticing that the more the Master Blogger tweaks 92~Three, where News & Hip Hop used to live, the more it becomes the kind of talk station he says he dislikes. Hmmmmm...kinda funny how a year of mediocre ratings can change your thinking!

How come nobody asks if it's raining where you are anymore? Must be somethin' wrong with the toaster!
 
Mac is not a bad host, but the show sounded disjointed with the constant traffic/weather interruptions. He would just be getting into a topic and then have to break for west-side/west-side traffic and weather with Mr. Ed.

The whole afternoon sounded extremely disjointed, especially the news breaks. They were using the same music beds/intros for money and sports news, but only played small snippets...which made it sound awkward. I'm not sure the Master Blogger will want to continue using music beds for such short news elements, or he will at least tighten up the production elements so it doesn't sound so awkward.

Anyone else think the show sounded disjointed? ???

Overall, I think the Master Blogger is making the right moves for KTAR.

McBland was an alternative to the Rush/Hannity Hydra on KFWhyEye, but a rather bad alternative. Beck is a copycat of the Hydra and doesn't bring much to the table when it comes to setting KT'R apart from 5~Fifty. If TMISU are counting pennies with local talkers, here's a suggestion from the Middle Eastern Men of the Media: dump Gaydos, pick up a syndicated talker from 7-10p, and move the salary to mid-day where they can be.. Live, Local & First!
 
Beck is not exactly a Rush-Hannity clone. He was funny, then full into an unentertaining slump (a la the former), then came back. Hannity is self-admittedly not an entertainer. Freedom concerts, rape and torture rooms... Yawwwn.

You're right...Beck sounds more like Rusty Humphries doing a bad Rush Limbaugh impersonation!

Except Beck has 275 stations based on merit, not because he's packaged with Michael Savage. The show is really catching on.
 
What I'm more interested in right now is seeing all of the people that post the anti-JD messages going silent after the latest ratings trends. Not only did JD/KFYI not fail, but they virtually recaptured all of their losses from previous trends--which is exactly what I repeatedly predicted here.

Naturally, had JD taken a huge downturn in the afternoon, there would have been no fewer than 10 threads about it. For the record, I don't particularly enjoy his show, but most of you were completely burying him (and KFYI) before JD's first show and now... whaddya know, silence... it's almost deafening.

As for KTAR, they are making strides--slow ones, but progress is good. Seeing some decent news/talk competition in this market may actually make things interesting, because for about 5-6 years, KFYI has been the hammer and KTAR has been the nail.
 
JD has been on the radio for 6 months. In those six months he's now had one good ratings month. He's 1 and 5.

If it continues he'll have proved the critics wrong. I personally think his show is terrible. I don't see him winning in afternoons. We'll see if he improves his 1-5 record. I give CC credit for not canning him after his miserable start.
 
As long as TMISU keep drawin' blanks, J.D. will win in PMD. Mac on KT'R is at a disadvantage because he's stopping every five minutes to do Traffic On The 9's. Plus the Master Blogger continues his station's love affair with Toaster Talk as often Mac will have a non-issue topic to discuss for a full hour. yawn. :(

What else would you call sending Mac Watson into battle and telling him you've got to have Detour Dan on every five minutes and do Toaster Talk? There's no way Mac can do his job with so many interruptions and mandated stupid topics. Someone needs to remind the Master Blogger there's a reason his genius has been trumped by KFWhyEye for the past year!

If KTAR is 5-1 against JD as someone else said, then how do you call that being trumped? Look, I think it was a mistake to change from Ted Simons to Mac Whatever. Ted was 5-1 against JD. JD was 1-5 as vetdude said.
 
Yeah, but Mac gives out his email address every minute and a half.

JD is terrible, as was Grant Woods.

Politicians make terrible hosts, and they never last.

Our Bad! Because KT'R is non-commercial we can't count three minutes of commercials, promos and Mister Ed weather to the equation. I'll have Nurse Jeff send an official apology to TMISU ;)
