JD on Cool

Heard JD on Cool this afternoon. I have to say, I actually liked his interaction between the music. JD....maybe music is the route? Talk doesn't seem to fit like the way I heard you jock this afternoon. (and I wouldn't mind the competition!)

Very High Praise, my friend....Thanks! I'm heartened to know that there is actually a jock out there that revels in good hard competition just like I do, and am flattered that you would think that I could be that "other" jock...That is just very nice.

As for doing music, here are my thoughts, if you're interested.

First, although Rik McNeil is as great a boss as I've ever had, and while it's nice to have fun on the radio again...I'm actually only working for Dan Arthur. I'm simply doing my best for a man who has decided to serve his country. I will show up, set the speakers on fire (if I can), and when Danny comes marching home, so will I.

In my career, I have won in spectacular fashion in all major dayparts in CHR, Hot A/C, Soft A/C, and Oldies. None of that work, or any of those accompishments ever resulted in anything close to the kind of financial success for me, that my work has provided for others.

At one station, I started in Afternoon Drive with a 5-share, and left it with a 27-share. In the final year, I got paid $1000.00 for every share. $27,000.00, even in 1987, didn't go very far believe me. Certainly not as far as the millions that station made in that same year....enough in fact for them to buy their closest competition. For cash.

As a music jock, I'm just too easily replaced for whatever reason....usually with a cheaper knock-off after the heavy-lifting is over.

After all these years, and 9-Eleven, I have both dedicated, and yes, resigned myself to an on-air broadcasting career that simply doesn't pay well.

So, I have chosen to do Talk Radio. Easily, the most satisfying, soul-renewing, benevolent broadcasting I have ever done. Taking care of my town. Taking care of my neighbors...telling the truth as I see it.

So as my wallet stays empty....at least my heart will stay full.
