Jeff Allen has been found

That's cool! Any word on him getting back into local radio?

Any truth to the rumor that another station is coming to Freeport/Rockford area with him on board?

Just curious.

It doesn't appear to be. Jeff is running ads in the trades for airwork and or work in sales/marketing in Illinois, Wisconsin and other Midwest parts.

Then if he is still in Freeport looking for on air work then Big Radio needs to contact him asap cause they are terrible!
Holy crap they suck.

Willy:

I don't see Big Radio hiring him anytime soon, considering Scott and the 5 station Mess, were the ones to fire him from WFPS/WFRL in the first place.

Scott should pay him what he wants and beg him to come back because that station might be the worst I have ever heard.
And what's the deal with the processing? Sounds like they are broadcasting from the bathroom. Fits the town though, a crapbox
like Freeport deserves a crapbox radio station.

Again Willy,

despite the station being "the worst you have ever heard", why would Scott Thompson re-hire Jeff Allen?

Scott fired him a year ago, do you think his ego has gotten any smaller since then?

Not to mention, Scott's morning show anchors, "your favorite station in the region".

Why would he want the competition in his own family of stations?

Your probably right Pete. Why bring in someone who is available who is clearly better than anything they have now.
As always, thanks once again FCC

Jeff sounded HORRIBLE and if he was worth anything he would be at a station now. Think about it...he had been on-air in Freeport for a period of time...if he had built up a sizable audience (totally entrenched himself in the market) that commanded ad dollars he would still be there...The Big Sleazy would have left him be. But, Jeff was no Don Werntz...and down the crapper he went. Look at his ad on the radio-online site. He is a whiner and complainer. Complains about his house! #!$@! Jeff wake up! No one cares that you have a mortgage...either you have the skills to do a job or your don't. Whining about the house is not a winning attitude. If Jeff truly wants to be more than a has-been morning show announcer (who only worked in a non-rated market and was canned) and wants to work in sales/marketing...destroy the photo on the website...get a haircut...a shave (The milk manager could help you with those) a bath and look like you have something more to offer than asking for a handout! Making buttons and magnets from home...roflol (see his website)...how PATHETIC! I bet the librarian loves that one. What's next...AMWAY? ;D

IMHO...Jeff didn't evolve and grow. He had potential...but became stagnant and did just enough to get by on the air...had zero ambition. Perhaps he should have been nicer to those around him in the past, networked and got an education! You have to ask yourself...being over 35 years of age making magnets at home did you make a wrong turn in your career path somewhere roflol! What a kick in the jewels it must be for Jeff to find the Milk Manager on the air and making a living doing what he wants to be doing...but instead he is sitting at home making magnets. No, life is not fair...but sometimes people end up where they are for a reason.

And exactly who are you to be passing judgments? Jeez. ::)

I worked with Jeff back in Freeport and have nothing but good things to say about the guy. When it came to being live and local, no one in Freeport did it better than Jeff did on WFRL.

Posts like this only confirm that these boards are trolled by either bitter ex-radio employees or people who think they have all the answers while knowing nothing about the radio industry.

Silver Surfer, exactly what ax do you have to grind against Jeff Allen?

As for his ability to "totally entrench himself in the market" where are you coming from? When I used to listen to WFPS and WFRL, I thought Jeff did a nice job with his local interview program and morning show and was always friendly and approachable when I met him on remotes. Certainly a lot more local than the current voice tracked stuff you can hear now.

And since Jeff's website or on-air talent is not "professional" enough for you, please tell us where we can find you on the dial or the web so we may be enlightened.

Silver, Did he steal your girlfriend or something? Try more fiber in your diet, might make you less hateful!

<<Silver Surfer, exactly what ax do you have to grind against Jeff >>

None. Only responding to the posts on the board that borderline on being obsessed about the guy. HE HAS BEEN FOUND! So what. He is not working...and there is a reason for that! He was nothing more than a dime-a-dozen announcer...easily replaceable and quickly forgotten. I am certain...none that post they like Magnet Boy and miss him took the time to write a letter to Thompson and ask for him to come back. Think about this...the Horse company didn't want him either.

If you worked with him and found him decent...what have you done to help him land a gig? Probably nothing. Don't use the excuse there are not on-air openings at your station...Magnet Boy makes it clear he can be a sales rep...and station's are always looking for a good account rep. So...help him out if you think he is good!

Otherwise...if you are just a fan of his...buy a magnet from him...I'm sure he could use the coin.

<<Silver, Did he steal your girlfriend or something?>>

Magnet Boy couldn't steal anyone's girlfriend...unless she was visually impaired and her sense of smell was impaired.

He got what was coming to him. He sat on his butt thinking he was a hotshot...yet his "show" was not valuable enough to keep him. Rather you like Thompson or not...bottom-line is he is a businessman...and if Magnet Boy's "show" and presence would make him a buck...he would have kept him! But, in my opinion...Magnet Boy alienated many way before The Big Sleazy took over. Look at some who are at the Sleazy...they worked with Magnet Boy in the past. If he was a valuable commodity he would be on-air in Freeport/Monroe. The Milk Manager is employed and on-air...Magnet Boy is not.

If Magnet Boy had been entrenched in the community...Thompson would not have easily replaced him...for the outcry would have been too strong and the hit to monthly billing would have been too severe. When Magnet Boy's show was canceled...a handful of people cared (counting him and his family)...no outcry....no loss of revenue. He was easily replaced and forgotten.

His ad on the Iowa board shows how lost he is. If you are looking for a "job" you don't whine or complain about your situation....he does this complaining about the albatross around his neck. Not a positive indicator of someone who will succeed in Sales...and lets face it...selling Magnets from home isn't exactly the mark of a successful marketing person. He is the one who tries to paint himself as the "Marketing Professional"...yet he has a pathetic website that shows little time and effort was put into it. He is the one who is "marketing" himself with the website...that makes it open for criticism. His website is not "professional" enough...especially when he is looking for work as a Sales Person/Marketing Rep. The photo hurts him...he looks like someone who sells magnets from his house..not someone who is successful.

Magnet Boy chose to stay in Freeport and not develop skills and abilities that would take him to bigger places. He only has himself to blame for where he ended up.

<<Try more fiber in your diet, might make you less hateful!>>

Hateful...LOL hardly. I am only being truthful and if you don't like it...use that mouse and click close. As stated above Willy...if you are a groupie of Magnet Boy...then help the poor slob out and buy a magnet or two...he can use the coin. IMHO...the only station he will ever be part of is a gas station.

I have to agree with Silver. Jeff was a bellyacher...a sad sack that always had a dark cloud about him. He was able to hide that to a degree in his on-air presentation and that is commendable...but when the mic was off...it was another story. I have to agree on the alienating some people and that ended him up where he is. He didn't seem to hide his displeasure for Don Werntz and Jim Douglas...both who went to EZ...this alone probably stopped him from being brought on board when the station was bought. The old saying, "Its who you know...not what you know that gets you the job" holds true. Networking and attitude are so important...and sadly, in most cases that outweighs someone's on-air abilities. This happens in many fields...not just broadcasting. Some of the best actors and or most popular actors in the world have found themselves unemployable because of "attitude." Maybe Silver hit on something...if you like Jeff and what he did...write Thompson or maybe start a petition campaign...that "might" have some positive impact...more than posting here.

Nos:

Thanks for the insight. It sounds like you were somewhat close to the situation and have something more to add than personal attacks against Jeff.

I was just a listener, nothing more, so all I got was the "radio personality", and in my honest opinion, I enjoyed Jeff's on-air work. Certainly more than what is currently on. Didn't really care how he "looked" or "smelled" as others have pointed out.

Maybe Don Werntz and Jim Douglas, with their deeply entrenched radio history in the area, can turn the station back into something that the area takes pride in.

Surfer:

Sorry to have upset you so, but once again, could you tell me where to find you on the radio dial so I can contact "Magnet Boy" (as you call him) to order some magnets on your behalf, and help Jeff out.

If kissing the rear end of Don Werntz and or Jim Douglass is how you keep your job heaven help us all!

Man...poor Jeff. Someone says they found him and then the personal attacks ensue.

Yeah, my favorite is the name calling. I think either Silver Surfer and Nosferatu are both 10 yrs
old or both have ED and are mad at the world because viagra or cialis does not work.
Willy out! :D
