JEFF GARRISON OUT AS OM OF CBS HOUSTON

All Access reports that Jeff Garrison OM of the CBS cluster in Houston has been transferred to the CBS group in Phoenix. Mark Adams has been named the new OM for all CBS stations in Houston. They must be dancing in the halls in Houston right about now.

Has anyone read the official 'he's outta here' notice? I heard it has more spin than an out of control merry go 'round. Just an opinion but I can't believe he kept his job this long after the way he and what's her name dismantled the station in 2008. Has anyone talked with any of the people he screwed over? Sure would like to hear what they have to say. Can you imagine having on your resume that you drove one of America's truly legendary winning radio stations straight onto the rocks? I hope Rowdy Yates is not affected. He's done a good job stepping into mess of the morning show, he and Steve Rixx and Tom Fontain are all that is left. I wonder how the people in Phoenix feel? Wish I knew the logic of how big shots like Dan Mason think. This has got to be the weirdest time in Houston radio ever!

I feel sorry for the people in Phoenix. I hear the Market Manager their is NOT happy about Jeff Garrison coming their!. Well if there is one thing Jeff-0 likes to do is get rid of talent good riddance to the talent on the country station in Phoenix. Talk about WEAK talent!!!!

He was in Phoenix before he came back to Houston to take over KILT. The 1st time he was in Houston was in promotions at KKBQ.

There is market speculation that CBS will dump country on KILT-FM, move the intellectual property of Mega to the 100.3 frequency, then launch a rock competitor against KTBZ on 101. All this seems like pure wishful thinking, but it may have some merit as an idea. Then again, it is CBS so strategy and logic are usually not in the equation.

Congratulations to Mark too. He's done an excellent job with Hot and Mix.

Won't happen in a million years. KILT CAN regain the crown. Now that a competent PD is in place its a matter of time.

Actually Jeff was the APD at KKBQ and also served as our producer for the morning show for a few years. Just keeping the info accurate guy.

Jeff worked under Dene Hallam for about 4 years before heading out to program a station somewhere in North Carolina. After that he landed in Phoenix to program KMLE. You may not like Jeff but let's at least be accurate. He did not make the leap from morning show producer to Group PD at CBS.

OK I'll give ya that. I worked with Dene (rip) JEFF IS NO DENE HALLAM.

smartestguy: why on earth would CBS move Mega to 100.3? KILT and KLOL are virtually identical signals. If KILT were to be blown up, why wouldn't they just put the rock format on FM 100? It's been done before.

If CBS is trying to sell the Phoenix group, why would Garrison want to go there? If the stations are sold would that let CBS off the hook for his salary? Maybe he has a clause that they would have to give him his parachute if something like that happens. I've never been at a level of employment to know about those things. My source tells me Garrison might be uncomfortable around major talent. Does KILT have an asst. PD? I met Rowdy at that big radio reunion at Tin Hall, I think they should make him the PD, he sure seems passionate about Houston and KILT. The last ratings I saw were for over-all listeners and I think they were tied for 15th? Off the KILT subject, The Arrow seems to be adding some harder edged music than Eagle, wonder what's up? Market research?

Radio stations especially corporate radio rarely hires PASSIONATE PROGRAMMERS. They hire Computer geeks and empty suits or in some cases you get an incompetent or inexperienced GM who will bring his/her friend.

From what I heard Garrison was told by market manager Brian Purdy your out at KILT and you can have your old job back in Phoenix. I also heard the Phoenix market manager was not happy about getting Garrison.

Another rumor I heard is that longtime KMLE DJ Stu Evans will be back.

As for Rowdy, he is one of the best and most passionate jocks I've ever known - he also has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to country music and its' listeners. While I am certain he would make a stellar PD, I can't see him wanting to take on that type of responsibility. Additionally, he has his weekly syndicated show through Westwood One - if he were to become PD, he would have a lot less time for that, and I would believe that he would rather have his syndicated program than to be a PD, imho.

And, Willie has it right - corporate suits don't care about passionate programmers, they listen to highly paid consultants and other wannabe's when it comes to programming instead of letting the programmers run their stations as they see/know best, again, imho.

I see them just dumping 101 for rock and not messing with KILT, that would not be a smart idea.

There is an old saying that goes "You don't throw the baby out with the bathwater." Easy enough to figure out. CBS will not be dumping KILT just because it happens to be under performing against KKBQ. MEGA 101 is another story but I'm pretty sure CBS will focus on fixing KILT before blowing up MEGA. I would speculate that Rowdy will shift back to afternoons once a morning show is found. It's my understanding that Rowdy and Erin were supposed to be a temporary measure. My conjecture is that Erin will stay put with a new morning host and continue to track mid-days along with tracking the Phoenix station. Steve Rixx will likely shift back to weekends while Tom Fontaine will continue at nights. That's my 2 cents. Lets see what happens over the next few months.

Well almost a year or so ago the thought that was being tossed around was blowing up mega and throwing an urban on 101--- Hip Hop 101..! I don't think thats possible but KBXX does is in dying need of some competition (lord knows they are stale). My opinion is if they did that at least entertain the idea of a classic urban 80's 90's and early 2000's hip hop only (this new hip hop is WACK!)

or hey I say skip all that and just put 610 sports on the FM and call it Sports 101.
