I knew Jeff from his Tampa gigs. Always a nice guy and obviously a talented programmer. Also a borderline workaholic. It's hard to believe he didn't see some writing on the wall. I wish him well.

What's with everyone thinking he got fired?

Even the title says "has quit" and you'd think that frequent use of the word "resigned" would define the situation well. :-\

http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRWebSite/Search.aspx?search=jeff kapugi ...for the full story/press release. Also on All Access. All of which say he was leaving by choice.

Either way...shocker for sure.

Well, if he surfaces at the Tribune Company and goes back to work for Randy Michaels I think you could say that was pursuing a better opportunity. That doesn't mean that he wasn't pressured or didn't feel the Grim Reaper might be gaining on him. In any case, Jeff landed on his feet and that's good. Those of us who know him wouldn't think any less of him in either case. It's CC's loss, whether they pushed him out or whether he just felt there was a better opportunity elsewhere.

I really like the direction IHT has gone since Jeff Wyatt left the station, when they were basically a CHR Rythmic. Or rather a rap station that played 1 or 2 rock/dance songs per hour. I hope that IHT stays on its same course and doesn't scew into some other tangent.

It sounds like they have gone back to Rhythmic. Listening over the weekend, they are playing a lot more current rap songs than before, with only 3 or 4 pop/rock songs a set.

Former CC programmer Jeff Kapugi joins Tribune's Interactive Division

The list of former Clear Channel people now with Randy Michaels and Sam Zell at Tribune now contains more than a dozen names, and the latest is former Washington/Baltimore programmer Jeff Kapugi. When he resigned in August, he didn't announce his plans, but it was expected that Tribune might be his destination. Today comes word to Radio-Info that Jeff Kapugi is the new VP of Content for Tribune Interactive.

Looks like a fairly savvy "new media" advertising company, positioning to rise like a phoenix from the burnt corpse that print media is fast becoming.

Jeff Kapugi is an intelligent and affable guy, and was always very pleasant to me in Tampa (which makes you wonder what he was doing at CCU). It's obvious that someone with that much talent would jump off a sinking barge and set sail on a ship with a bright future. Jeff, are you accepting resumes?
;)
