Jeff Katz Weekends on KNEW

Jeff worked it like nobody else. He spoke to about 100 different groups over a year's time. He's a very dedicated talk show host. CC just didn't want to pay him the $ he had been making here, so he had to move on.

Nah...What happened with Jeff at KNEW is that he was caught in the middle of a management change - from Kohl to Agnew. Kohl loved him, Agnew didn't...A lot more to it than that, but that's the short version.

True about the management change, but also the salary was cut from the budget. Just like the Savage one was cut. They even talked about cutting Armstrong & Getty the end of 2009 for a while.

So when was the begining of the end for KNEW?

Somewhere around the time Ron Fell departed...

CNET radio never made the book. There were many meetings about this. It's why they gave 910 back to CC with 3 weeks notice. CC put together a conservative talk station in literally 3 weeks.

Actually, I believe they simulcast KIOI for awhile - maybe it was only 3 weeks, I don't remember, but I do recall listening to 101.3, and hearing the top-of-the-hour ID "KIOI, KNEW, San Francisco..."

Yes, they did. We had to take meter readings for them back then. Those 100% simulcast numbers were credited to KIOI, though. It was just temporary until the change over. I don't think I still have those books, but doubt if KNEW added over a .1 to KIOI at that time.

Jeff was doing the Premiere "The Weekend" show as a guest host, in addition to his regular duties in Boston. It is not a regular deal, he won't be on every weekend (unless Clear Channel decides to give him that slot).

It's the show that started off with rotating Clear Channel hosts, was eventually taken over by WLW/Cincinnati's Mike McConnell, then, after McConnell left WLW and Clear Channel for Tribune's WGN/Chicago...it's back to rotating hosts again.
