Jeff Probst Show cancelled after one season

I know it didn't have the national following it needed but I found it more interesting than most tawk shows of the type.

I cannot figure out how the hell that piece of crap Dish Nation found a home though.

Unfortunately, Dish Nation's many 'sub-prime' tie ins and the usual 'call to vote on a poll and get phone spam forever with our special offers' seem to give it a good advertising bent towards the local stations that air it. They don't care if it's badly rated, because of its good local ad inventory, and that's all that seemed to matter there.

I'm not sure if WBBM-TV moved Jeff Probst to the overnight hours, but I knew his show was cancelled, when Judge Judy got put back into the 2 & 2:30pm timeslots again. The last time I remembered a talk show WBBM carried was moved into the overnight hours was back in 2001, when they carried dr. laura (intentionally put her name in lowercase). Her show was put in the overnight slot intentionally to bring the ratings down, so it would get cancelled. In the case of Jeff Probst, I believe WBBM-TV may have put Jeff Probst in the overnight hours (if they're showing the program at all) in order to air the remaining episodes while still in contract, since it didn't do too well in the 2pm timeslot.

In the SF Bay Area. KNTV for about less than 2 months had Jeff Probst at 2 PM after Days of our Lives, but because ratings were so poor, by Halloween, the show was put into the 3 AM slot after the Today Show. Another nearby station KXTV 10 in Sacramento still carries his show at 3 PM after Millionaire and is a lead-in to Ellen.

Believe it or not, Jeff's show was one of the three rookies that premiered on WJW FOX 8 in Cleveland back in September. The other two were Steve Harvey and Ricki Lake. Harvey is coming back, while Probst and Lake are now gone as of fall '13. That would be two hours to fill for next year, but I'm not sure if Probst will get a late night slot for now.

I knew it. KPRC in Houston has really did pulled a double whammy, as BOTH rookie shows Ricki Lake & Jeff Probst will be leaving the schedule in August. KPRC was doing so very well with Rachael Ray and Dr. Phil as both shows have a well-established audience, as well as Ellen, in which case it was moved over to KHOU. KPRC wished it would've have had Rachael Ray & Dr. Phil back on Channel 2 because Ricki & Jeff were 2 well-promised shows that were going somewhere to find an audience, but they have both failed at all costs. It was the bottom line that made the call.

Wonder if WJW will get Queen Latifah's return and that (bleepin) Bethenny show to replace Ricki and Jeff?

When you mentioned it was dropped in Chicago, off an important market from an NBC O&O, NBC essentially didn't want it. And, Queen Latifah's show was being syndicated by CBS Television Distribution (that distributes Probst), I figured it was essentially Latifah replacing Probst, but clearing on all the CBS O&Os.

Since Latifah will air on CBS O&Os and many air Dr.Phil already, it's possible that 'The Doctors' will go to some of the NBC O&Os that were airing Probst. It's hard to tell, WCBS will surely pick up Latifah, but could keep 'The Doctors' exclusive on WLNY and not let it clear on any of the traditional NY stations, but I doubt that approach would be the best strategy for 'The Doctors'. I'd think that it'd still need to clear on one of the NY major stations likely WNBC.

But doesn't that mean the Doctors will become a new NBC O&O station group, since I know that in the Bay Area, KNTV already put Jeff's show at 3:05 AM in the morning and when the new season comes along, Bethenny (Which will be produced by Ellen's Very Good Production) will likely be on a mix of NBC and FOX o&O's. I'm banking that KNTV will carry the show, since in Seattle KONG carries Jeff's show at 12:35 AM weeknights now and Katie is the lead-in to KING 5 News at 5 PM.

Don't think so. Jeff is still carried at 6PM on KONG, and probably will be until his last rerun episode.

I honestly didn't expect Probst's show to last very long. All last late spring/early summer when KPRC started airing pre-debut promos my co-worker and I kept asking to each other "what's his show going to be about?" Even the website tie-in gave no clues.

Every promo for the show was aimed at "introducing" Probst (Hello, I'm "off the wall" "funny", etc) to the TV audience as if - after more than a decade of hosting a hit primetime show - he had no name recognition.

So far, KPRC hasn't switched his time slot (nor Ricki Lake's midday slot)...but they don't really have much else to put there. AFAIK, Dr. Oz at 3pm is their only other hour-long syndicated program. Everything else comes from NBC or is a half-hour "Entertainment" program (Extra, ET).

WBBM-TV is a CBS O&O station in Chicago. WMAQ-TV is the NBC O&O (never carried Jeff Probst), while WLS-TV is the ABC O&O. I don't know if Jeff Probst was totally dropped, or moved to the overnight hours to finish out their commitment to carrying the show.

From what I heard, WBBM-TV won't be carrying Queen Latifah in Chicago. I heard independent station, WCIU, will carry her show. WCIU is already the secondary affiliate for Dr. Phil (WBBM-TV being the primary by carrying the show at 3pm), & WCIU carries his show at 9am on 26.1 (not sure if also shown on 26.2). The Doctors is also carried on WCIU, & it's on at 5pm on 26.1, & reaired on 26.2 at midnight.

As for what airs at 2pm on NBC O&O WMAQ-TV, it's Steve Harvey, & his show replaced Nate Berkus. Steve Harvey did so well that his show is renewed for another season, & WMAQ-TV has also done well with Steve Harvey in that timerslot, that he's staying in the 2pm slot.

As for WLS-TV, I hope Katie will be off this station after next season, since ABC/Disney distribution gave Katie Couric a 2 year contract, & ABC networks signed all 8 of their stations to carry that show at 3pm. Because of corporate's move, WLS-TV was forced to move Inside Edition & Jeopardy up an hour, when the 2pm slot was given back to the affiliates, & mandated all 8 O&O to carry Katie at 3pm. Inside Edition & Jeopardy did so well for WLS-TV for over 20 years (Jeopardy was always in the 3:30pm timeslot since they picked up the show in 1983, which would have been 30 years this year in that slot), that it made no sense to move those shows. I believe WLS-TV should have been allowed to carry Katie at 2pm instead. From what I heard, the ratings aren't what they used to be in the 3pm timeslot, leading into the 4pm news, compared to Inside Edition & Jeopardy.

Here it states Latifah will air on all CBS O&Os:
http://tv.yahoo.com/news/cbs-tv-stations-land-sony-tv-queen-latifah-171411482.html

I think her show will do better than Lake or Probst, given that she has more stardom and better clearances.
I'd be curious if she competes directly against Wendy Williams (urban), Ellen (hollywood/celebrity) or Katie, or in a way competing against all three.

I don't think her show will pull from Dr.Oz, Dr.Phil or Rachael Ray, but maybe Steve Harvey.

As for WLS, I think it had in mind 9am now for 'Kelly and Michael', once WGN's contract for it ends.

Given that Scripps dropped Wheel/Jeopardy!, would Disney/ABC be inclined to drop it off some of its markets?
