Jeff Smulyan wants to take Emmis Private

There's a story about it at Radio And Records. That's why you're seeing the KKFR sale and the TV Spinoffs. Good move or bad?

I am by far no fan of Emmis, but I think this is a good move. If more radio companies would do this, maybe things would get better. Less worrying about the bottom line and what stockholders think and more worrying about what listeners think.

There are plenty of privately lheld radio companies now. They may have more ability to look slightly beyond the quarterly results and invest for a longer term, but the investors in private companies are just as focused on the bottom line as publicly traded companies. Some more so.

It appears that the investor in this private company would be like 90% Smulyan.

Jeff Smulyan not taking Emmis Private After All

LOS ANGELES, Aug 4 (Reuters) - The chief executive of Emmis Communications Corp. (EMMS.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday he has withdrawn a three-month-old offer to take the radio and television broadcaster private because he could not reach an agreement with the board of directors.

The company's shares, which soared after CEO Jeffrey Smulyan publicized his roughly $567 million offer in May, fell more than 10 percent in extended trading.
