Jen Brien Officially Gets WBZ-1030 Overnight Show

Agreed...and slogans shouldn't be taken as totally
accurate.NECN: the news you need is on right now. Except
when they do shows on dining or real estate, or informercials.Maybe headlines on a crawl though.
Ch 7 The News Station..yet it isn't totally news but they
are saying tune to them for news, it really matters to
them etc. And radio stations do what's best for their
bottom line and if that means Saturday Bill Kelly brokered talk instead of live-local poli. talk so be it.

When the bombings happened on 4-15 suddenly there
was expanded coverage. WBZ 1030 simulcast on FM;
EEI simulcast RKO, stations like 4,5,and 25 // on
radio. But that was a major breaking news event.

But some want news all the time; tune in at 2:45 am
on BZ to hear headlines on MA legislator bills, fires
in Lynn, environmental studies at universities, etc...yeah there
is some top hour news on BZ overnight, some weather
and traffic, but do they need to go all news overnight?
Hey if they wanna lose money...

TSB...I was referring to WYAY in Atlanta, an all news station, not WBZ. My only point was most people would not listen to an infomercial. The very few who do are responsible for any results they bring in.

That being said, I wish WBZ would get rid of them Saturday nights.

On Jen Brien's second night (June 26th into June 27th) as WBZ-1030's official weeknight overnight hostess, her predecessor, Steve LeVeille, was a guest during the first few minutes of the show.

He gave her the stamp of approval, which might be huge for Ms. Brien.

She was pretty good the overnight after Obama was elected the first time, then the lure of big time talk seemed to mean she had to do the conservative talk show routine and she's not bright or articulate enough to pull it off.

She simply isn't very good

That he did, but what else could he say? He had to take the "PC" route... And, he also admitted that he has listened to absolutely NO talk radio since his retirement, except for one hour of the prev. nights show. Although an hour should have been enough to pick up on her lack of intelligence/poor level of conversation... ::)

She's OK if she sticks to inconsequential topics, but how many nights can we stand hearing hours and hours about her dogs?

Joe Mathieu (or however he spells it) quite properly took her to task on the air during her show for not listening to the parts of her own program that air when she isn't talking. She had repeatedly said that Mathieu was on vacation for one day when, in fact, he was hosting a WBZ Business Breakfast at a downtown Boston hotel. The hotel event took place simultaneously with Mathieu's regular AM-drive shift. He sounded serious. She seemed to ignore the criticism. She is either not smart enough to know how to react properly or too self-absorbed to care.

I'd say it speaks volumes when air talent at a straight-laced radio station takes other talent to task ... especially when it's the morning guy ripping the fill-in overnight talent

"He gave her the stamp of approval, which might be huge for Ms. Brien."

I wish I'd heard that but I listen to only slightly more talk than Steve does. He prob' did it because Larry did a few of his shows and B.Raleigh did one --reluctantly-- but declined other opportunities.

Slightly off-topic but I checked in on one Talk host this week and found out he was dead. And I'm not talking Bruce Bradley. Lots of strange stuff happening in the business.

Well, I can officially say that WBZ censors the posts that they want on their website/program page. I just now checked the "newest" and I see several are missing now that were there previously, including one of mine.

Nice way to stack the deck, 'BZ. There are a dozen or so praising JB as being the best thing since sliced bread. What a joke. ::)

@ Blackroc -

On Steve's "stamp of approval"...as I mentioned previously, what else could he say? He had to take the politically correct route. And, since he only listened to one hour of the prev. night's show, I guess he didn't hear enough of her "uh-huh's" to catch on to that annoying habit.

I went to bed early listening to Dan Rea rather than KDKA. I woke up to Brien around 4:00am. After saying something particularly stupid she followed that up with "give me a break I am really tired." So professional.

seriously. That's the best they could do?

You guys have got to read the comments on BZ' program page if you want to laugh. Click on her show, scroll to the bottom & select "newest" comments. It's a hoot! I check it about every other day and am never disappointed! ;D

wow, that many people don't like her?? Poor girl. For me, she sounds hott!!

Really?!?

This morning she spent 40 minutes talking about her dog rolling around in feces. :(

I hope peter Casey reigns her in soon. How can this show get any lower?

Uh-huh. ::)

Well... I just went over to BZ's programming page to weigh in on with a comment for this show. No automatic posting allowed anymore, they are now moderating all comments. No wonder, with all the neg. feedback she has been receiving.

I for one am not happy. I cannot stand to listen for more than 10 min. or so. I'll be moving on to greener pastures, I suppose. Grayson, Phil Hendrie, I'll even get a Satellite subscription is I have to. Anything but this mind-numbing show. ::)

Maybe Jeff Katz would have worked out better :)

(Katz FB: "plus i heard priceless radio as the overnight host on wbz speak of oprah and her creation "teachable moments") :)

to weigh in on with a comment for this show.
I knew that would be brief. They aren't going to provide a forum for negative comments. I didn't say anything when it was up and running because I haven't heard to show. Maybe sometime this winter but right now my listening to BZ is minimal at best.

As for hearing Hendrie good luck. He's not had any original programming since he left TRNand I think his Ma affiliate has flipped to Grayson (haven't checked in a while).

That's correct. WSAR/1480 is running Overnight America now (I don't have to listen to it on WBAL through the IBOC hash of WTIC anymore!).
