Jen Brien Officially Gets WBZ-1030 Overnight Show

Where did I say I even listen to her much or for that matter where did I say I liked her? I never said either. My point has always been "If you don't like it don't listen" and at the same time don't try to convert me to your way of thinking.
I do believe in being as fair and accurate as possible therefore it annoys the hell out of me when people post misinformation, unsubstantiated information or stuff that sounds like it belongs on a streetcorner such as "I wonder who she's sleeping with" or as another classy contributor posted that maybe Peter Casey" fell for her feminine wiles". Talk about classy people, there are many other examples in both of the Brien threads all made up and all b*****it. The thread titled " Who Will Replace Jen Brien" is another example of nonsense. There are posts in both of these threads that are very close to the legal definition of slander or libel but because posted about a public figure there is no consequence. And the posts made by the deluded one that seems to think that he is the arbiter of all things Radio are the emptiest of all.
I suggest that before you try to put words in my mouth you get your facts straight. I hope I have clarified my position to you. If you don't like her write a letter to Peter Casey instead of of posting the same stuff over and over. These two Brien threads bring to mind the expression about "flogging a dead horse."

BTW, it would appear in your way of thinking that there is a fine line between slander and the first amendment. If we are to go by that measure, I suppose one could say Ms. Brien crosses that line every night with her constant bad mouthing of her neighbors, calling them names, bad mouthing her own family, previous co-workers, etc.

Thank you for the explanation. Substantive or not it's immaterial to me. I've said I don't listen very often. I don't really care one way or the other about her or her show. If I tune in and I don't like what I hear I just shut it off. Life is way to short to get all wound up over the kind of crap these threads generate. My problem is with the way these two threads are used.

My opinion is that the WBZ legacy changed years ago.....and has gotten to be less and less as they start to behave like all the stations out there, informertials eetc. Even the Clear Channel part of it doesn't mean what it once did. The're just like everyone else, just trying to make a profit. Radio isn't what it used to be and a lot of the problem was created by radio itself....cross...multi station ownership and a generally shrinking market. There's just too much competition and way too many sources with the Internet etc.I don't think you'll ever see a Glick or Raleigh or Nathan again, they had something unique and Management allowed them to run with it.
You can debate as to whether Brien has any talent or not but she has been around at smaller stations for quite a while before the ill fated gig at WRKO. I realy don't know what the Management at WBZ has told her they expect. To my ear it sounds like she hasn't been able to figure it out yet and gets sidetracked too easily. I don't listen enough to comment beyond that. There's a philosophy in radio that says you should tailor your presentation as if you were talking to one person and avoid using phrases that imply more than a single listener. It's supposed to make the listener feel like they are being spoken to on a one to one basis. I think she wanders too far and as to whether or not she realizes it I don't know.
There really isn't anyone on WBZ talk that's anything special anymore since Norm Narthan. I think Nathan was a genius.(IMHO) I think they're all prety generic and unfortunately thats what radio in general has become - generic pablum. Because of Consultants everyone tries to stay the same as everyone else that's doing that particular format. Also, the talent pool is not what it used to be. Part of the reason being that there is no place to develop it anymore.

Larry was the best, no question. I enjoyed the tinmes he made return appearance with Steve as well. But for me, it's a bit different than that. Yes, she is quite certainly destroying that legacy and that is a shame, but then again - that happens in markets everyday across the country. For me, I personally liked the interaction I had with previous hosts and simply being able to listen the whole night through without having the urge to upchuck.

So that's it; After 11:59 pm, there's nothing to listen to and I along with many others miss that live/local radio show. Steve may or may not care about the legacy, I wouldn't really know. He did enjoy a long good run with 'BZ, except for that little hiccup a couple of years ago.

The "shut it off" answer is too easy; why should we have to do that? If there is such a large outcry concerning this host, as was the case with Grayson a few yrs. ago, then management should take action.

In fact, there was many a night with the earphone in that I woke my wife out of a sound sleep because I laughed out loud while in bed. Man, do I miss Norm.

Norm was something very special all he had to do was open his mouth and I was on the floor laughing. It was a sad day when he died.

btw WBZ runs news about 5 am-8 pm and then talk. Their slogan is "News Radio". Similarly WHJJ 920 in Prov (Clear Channel) is now also calling itself "News Radio"--I think it has a news block in AMD with Ron St Pierre, then talk from Beck, Rush, Hannity etc. Talk shows but again a "News Radio" slogan (Talk ABOUT the news? Or accenting their use of local/national news...)

Are you talking about "Sounds in the Night" or is there another recording? Jordan released "Sounds in the Night" on CD a few years ago.
