Jen Brien on WBZ

Been listening to her on WBZ over the past couple of weeks. She's full of energy and quick-witted. She keeps it fresh. I'd like to see her become the permanent overnight host during the week and keep Jay, Jordan, and Morgan on weekends. Thoughts?

Agree or I DID agree until I heard part of this morning's (Thurs 3/14/2013) program. Black helicopter stuff, straight out of the Alex Jones playbook. Guest was a guy named Craig Hulet or something like that. I'm sure it drew lots of calls but I am not sure that that sort of material belongs on a major signal such as WBZ.

I like her as well. Had thought of her more as a political type talker based on her work on WXTK and WRKO but she seems be handling a wide range topics well.

The black helicopter talk last night - I have no problem with it as an occasional topic just let's not turn into Coast to Coast AM.

Back in the day I remember the evening talk hosts in Buffalo would do psychics on occassion telling fortunes to the callers and even did a remote on halloween from a rumored haunted building. Again, the mix keeps it interesting. Even if something in the mix comes up I don't want to listen to one night, I'll come back the next to see what is going on.

There are some things Steve used to do that might be nice to bring back to the mix. Like, say, Mel Simmonds.

I agree 100%

Leveille used to have a psychic on and even Howie would have someone on doing either psychic
readings or telling people if they had angels around them..

Bob Raleigh had the psychic. Steve hated psychics and refused to have them on his show. Jordan has them on sometimes.

Those who equate psychics with the kind of black helicopter stuff that was on BZ overnight a couple of nights ago need to listen to the black helicopter talk. The helicopter stuff bears no relation to psychics. It's all about how the government is out to get you.

I'd argue a significant fraction of the population awake and not working at 3 a.m. is pretty into that stuff. There's a reason why they're awake at 3 a.m. and everyone else isn't. You have to cater to your audience.

Where would anyone get that idea ?

Of course, one man's black helicopter is another man's The Ed Show.

Regards,
TSB

I wasn't equating psychics to black helicopters - my point was variety. Do some off beat stuff, some politics, trivia, interview a book author, whatever and be creative.

Now Steve could do some pretty different things like the kazoo band and his Fluff tributes were so unique to him that no successor should try to copy it.

I still think she should call the show the "Jen Brien Experiment".

One thing that got me recently...when she was taking Old Time radio with a caller & and he (the caller) brought up Kenny Meyer's name. She didn't have a clue who Ken Meyer was.

Are you kidding me? She's been in radio for how long, lived in this area and hasn't come across the name Ken Meyer? ::)

I found that really odd for a radio personality in this area to be so out of touch with the overnight show, Larry Glick's "right hand man..."

WBZ overnight is about Boston, Massachusetts and New England in general, the past, the people and especially the night people. Jenn is so far off of what BZ overnight has always done best. She is uninformed as to the history of the station, the people (Muck) and the night people in Boston...where are the Charlie DiGiovanni's and Olga's and Genna Rossa types....who cares about bigfoot and black ops and UFO's and government conspiracy.....Jenn is Coast to Coast, we need Jean Shepherd...I hear Larry Glick rolling over in his grave,...Morgan is the closest there is to being a Boston overnight host on BZ....Jenn is clueless...tuning in to Glick was so exciting and tuning in and hearing Jenn's voice causes me to turn the station off...not what I want, but what I am compelled to do. Jean Shepherd and Glick were in the same class...Jenn is more like Dean Johnson (?), just not right!

She is so, how may I say this to be polite. She is so (beautiful). Her personality. She is so nice, so relaxing to listen to, so at ease, so comforting, she is the "Sunshine of the night"
what a sweetheart

Gotta give you this: It's a GREAT sell line! Have you called in and tried to sell it to her--and the station? I guess you could also send the line to her by Facebook or the like or by e-mail. If the line is not original with you, that's probably OK; I've never heard it anywhere else.

Actually, shouldn’t it be, er, the “Moonshine of the night”? :D

I do like her show, even as Steve Lavallie (or however you spell his name) is missed. You could tell that near the end that he was dissatisfied with the management at the station.

Yes, it's the first time I said that, and yes, I did tell her that, she was like "Tell my mother that"
She responded that because I guess her and her Mom don't get along to well? She always mentions that on her show. Her Mom is always yelling at her about something

Anyways, I love her show

Was that the guy who'd play at most 10 minutes of comedy clips per hour and spend the rest of the time reading ad copy and taking calls from listeners where you'd only hear him, and not the caller?
