Jennifer Johnson

Jennifer Johnson will replace Holly Maynard, who left 13 and took a job in Charlotte North Carolina.

The question now is who will replace Jennifer?

Any ideas?

My guess is Nikki Rudd.

Channel 10's ratings at 11pm have been on the decline for some time now. Some believe it is because of the mediocre programming offered by NBC as a lead-in to the local news, while others say 10's ratings started to drop after Janet Lomax left the 11pm spot. Perhaps seeing this, and the fact that 13 continues to dominate Rochester's local TV news, Johnson felt it was best to bail out while there was still a lifeboat available.
Don't get me wrong, this is a golden opportunity for Johnson to co-host WHAM's Morning Show. As for Johnson's replacement, I too agree that Nikki Rudd is the leading candidate for the job.

Nikki Rudd is not ready for prime-time...and it shows. She should consider herself lucky to be doing weekends honestly. She can be quite unprofessional sometimes, in my opinion. They go outside the station for this hire--it is a top anchor spot after all.

You've made some interesting (and to the point) comments. However I personally don't think management is going to spend the money looking outside for an anchor; especially when they have people in-house that can do the job.

The reason I choose Nikki Rudd is because she fits management's history of hiring 'pretty young women' no matter what their qualifications. On the flip side of the coin, the station also has a reputation of getting rid of female anchors and reporters who show any sign of age, or have put on a few extra pounds.

I personally think there is a big difference in a main m-f anchor and a weekend anchor. Rudd does not equal Johnson. Being a main anchor you are the face of the station..on the set and in the community...from what I have seen on the air, Rudd seems immature at times...not exactly the person I would want to be the face of the station--next to Funke...then again, 10 is a sinking ship...making curious personnel decisions a lot...so who knows. Experience and class don't seem to matter anymore

But if you remember Johnson (who was once a weekend anchor herself) took a lot of flack when she was promoted to the 11pm spot. Not that I am defending Rudd or questioning your opinion of her on-air performance.

As for Channel 10 being a sinking ship, I must admit that I've never been a real fan of WHEC news.

While Channel 8 news has survived a news director whose goal it appears was to decapitate the news department of long-time and experienced reporters & anchors; WROC TV has become a more stable news operation.

Personally I've always watched either YNN or Channel 13's news.

Finally regarding your comment on experience. There I agree with you 100%. My job takes me to a number of small market communities dealing with broadcasting operations. In all my years I've never seen a poorer quality of product being produced at these small TV and radio stations. When it comes to TV it all comes down to sex appeal and looks. Sorry if this comes across as being bias against women, but if you are good looking and the camera likes you, the chances of landing a job in a medium and even larger market are very good compared to say a more competent person who might not have "the look."

Watch the movie featuring William Hurt as a news anchor and Holly Hunter as a TV news producer, and you will understand what I mean.

If anyone wants my opinion, I think the leading canidate to do the 11pm news on Channel 10 should be Lynette Adams. She's been at WHEC like forever, knows the community, and the community knows her. She doens't seems to be leaving TV10 no time soon, she's outgrown being a reporter, and is has that Rochester experience and charisma. Give the job to Lynette!
