We'll see how long this last until they flip again. I don't see alternative attracting very many listeners.

I must admit - the new stationality sounds really, really good. However, I share the skepticism regarding whether or not this will actually fly.

A station built in the image of 99.7 The Blitz in Columbus would've been great. WMMS is ripe for competition. Cleveland is a rock town, and I am inclined to believe there is a sizable cohort of listeners who are sick of listening to all the yakking on 100.7 and would prefer a playlist that is a little fresher than what's available from 98.5.
 
JenY 107.3 has proven to be a disaster despite best efforts. Now the station is going completely jockless. I have a feeling this station will be divested or LMA'd at some point.

Rubber City seems incapable of operating successful properties outside of its home base of Akron, and let's face it - operating a commercial FM on a standalone basis in Cleveland (or any other large market) is a difficult proposition in the first place.

I still believe a harder rocking format would've worked significantly better.

Smooth Jazz is a dead commercial format. Skews old, outside desirable demographics advertisers demand. Listening was one thing on paper but personal people meters saw listening to be only a tiny percentage of what written diaries indicated. It might work on listener supported radio stations.
 
But does that desirable demographic still listen to terrestrial radio? Certainly not in the same numbers as they did years ago.
 
Yes the desirable demos do listen and at about the same numbers. Then again, radio programs for the desirable demos because that is where the ad dollars come from. To be honest, while radio is doing well in holding it's audience, the advertiser is likely allocating fewer dollars to radio simply because of the many advertising venues that slice the advertising pie into many more slices than there once were.
 
What were the ratings under Smooth Jazz, the last incarnation a few years ago? Not the WNWV that existed before 'Boom!', but the revival.
 
I don't know the specifics but smooth jazz was a format where diary holders wrote in long listening spans but in PPM markets it was about 20% of what it had been in the paper diary market. David Eduardo can likely shed more light on this subject than I can.

They’ve also been running “Commercial free Tuesdays” for about a month now. If that’s not a sign of trouble…..

Moving all of the jocks to their other stations leads me to believe that this station is gonna get sold in the not too distant future. It’s just a matter of Audacy vs (far more likely) EMF.

I wanted to give this station a chance, but wayyyy too much new (read: largely crappy Mall-ternative l). The DJs and sweepers were even lamer. Oh well.
 
That's more niche than I thought, that's on par with WCLV and maybe WCPN. I figured they were in the higher 2's.
 
I think a format change, or any kind of change, is more likely to happen than a sale. I don't think the company wants to get rid of the station.

Totally agree, MediaLover. Ownership is blessed with incredible financial assets besides the stations. So, no apparent pressure to sell.
