Jeopardy host Alex Trebek is on Medical Leave

http://deadline.com/2018/01/alex-trebek-jeopardy-medical-leave-surgery-hiatus-1202235930/

Trebek was admitted to LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on December 15 after experiencing complications from hitting his head in a fall in October. He was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma and underwent surgery to remove it December 16. The surgery was successful, and he was released from the hospital two days later.

Trebek is expected to make a full and complete recovery. He will resume taping Jeopardy! in mid-January. Because the show is filmed months in advance, its broadcast schedule won’t be affected with one exception: The upcoming College Championship, which was supposed to tape now, will film in March and air in April.

Note in the 2018 prediction threads someone mentioned that Trebek would have to be replaced at some point.

yep, sooner or later, Jeopardy has to start getting ready for a retirement or death for it's host. as Alex's not getting any younger and he been hosting this show for several decades now, same can be say for Wheel of Fortune as Pat Sajak has been the host of the show since the start of the syndication version as well as the host of the NBC/CBS Network version from 1981-1989 as well as Vanna White who joined WOF with Pat in 1982 on the network version and was on both versions since then. thy are pretty much at retirement age.

How will this affect the show, and how many episodes have already been taped with Alex as host?
They are shutting down production for a month until Alex returns. I imagine if they don't have enough shows in the can they will go to reruns.

I can confirm that last week's episodes were taped around Halloween. A contestant who grew up around here got a quite detailed newspaper article about his appearance.

Yeah I have a friend whose daughter was a contestant. I think her episode was taped about 3 months in advance, and she had to sign a nondisclosure agreement saying she would not talk to anyone about the outcome until it aired.

Tuesday, the defending champion talked about how he and his wife celebrated Pi Day. Which was yesterday. There was no guarantee he would be there yesterday, but he was. The fact that Pi Day wasn't even mentioned, I suppose, is the result of the delay in taping one of the tournaments.

One week Alex mentioned that it was Spring. This week he said the College Championship would start next week.

So both episodes must be from after he came back, right?

Alex Trebek was on, To Tell The Truth on ABC Sunday Night Game Shows. However, he gave an interview a few years ago. He said he thought Matt Lauer would be a great replacement. Since Matt no longer on Today Show.
Maybe just maybe Matt could take over the job, but Matt still a pariah in the eyes of many.

Lauer would NOT work on Jeopardy - for a LOT of reasons.....

I can't stand Matt Lauer. This precedes the accusations against him. He's just a jerk.

Alex was very professional on "To Tell the Truth".
