'Jeopardy,' 'Wheel of Fortune' cancel audiences due to COVID-19 Fears

Before the virus scare, Wheel of Fortune filmed a week of episodes in partnership with Carnival Cruise Line. It was supposed to air March 30-April 3, but it has now been pulled and replaced with a week of reruns from October 2018. Carnival has shut down all of its operations until further notice. It is unknown when or if the Carnival episodes will air.

The same situation is also happening with an upcoming week titled "UK Getaway", one of multiple weeks this season made in partnership with Collette Vacations. It has been pulled and replaced with reruns from January 2019.

After taking to Twitter Sunday to announce her pregnancy, Meghan McCain revealed that she will be co-hosting The View remotely as a precaution due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

“My husband Ben and I have been blessed to find out I’m pregnant,” she tweeted. “Although this isn’t how I expected to announce my pregnancy, both we and our families are excited to share the news with you all.”

She continues, “I consulted with my doctors and they advised me that for the safety of our baby and myself, I should be extra vigilant about limiting the amount of people we come in contact with. Starting immediately, I’ll be joining the millions of Americans who are self-isolating as a precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As a result, I will be appearing on The View from home via satellite.”

One of the View Pundits will move her show to isolation.

Wheel of Fortune has finally begun adding disclaimers regarding some (not all) trips when they're awarded. On last Tuesday's episode, as a cruise was being described, a caption appeared: "This episode was taped prior to the national health emergency."

"America's Funniest Home Videos" has Alfonso Ribeiro touching the hands of people in the audience. Last Sunday, both times he did that, the date of taping was shown. It was January.

After late-night talk shows one by one returned to TV with episodes taped at home, the lights are also starting to turn on for daytime talkers that had give dark over the coronavirus crisis.

Beginning Monday, March 30, freshman syndicated talk show Tamron Hall will return with new segments originating from her home. This new content, focused on the latest news surrounding COVID-19, will be followed by encore segments from previous episodes.

Like all other TV production, Tamron Hall shut down production two weeks ago amid escalating coronavirus pandemic. The Disney-produced and distributed program which has been renewed for a second season, recently changed showrunners, with Candi Carter taking over for Talia Parkinson-Jones.

Tamerpn Hall to do the show from her home due to the stay at home orders

"Wait! Wait!" on NPR finally had an audience today. It has been so weird not hearing applause. Why did it take so long for the sound effects guy to add that?

And while I don't listen I heard someone say "Ask Me Another" was coming up with the host working from home and celebrities standing in for guests.

Probably not. J! and Wheel tape in an alternating pattern. Wheel only taped two weeks without an audience, so J! is likely the same, but they have a longer tape-to-air gap than Wheel since Wheel has less episodes per season and, unlike J! since Wheel has no champions, they don't tape weeks in the order they air.

The College Tournament is next week on "Jeopardy". Are we still not up to the episodes without an audience?

Jeopardy! seems to tape regular shows 2-3 months in advance. It's likely the College Tournament was filmed in early to mid January; many colleges don't resume until after Martin Luther King Day.

Today's episode of Wheel was one of the 12 episodes taped without an audience and with extra precautions from Pat and the contestants. It was originally supposed to air on May 26, but it was moved up to today to replace a Carnival-sponsored episode. Wheel only had two no-audience tapings before suspending production, on March 12 and 13 (right after Jeopardy!'s). The episodes taped on March 12 air today and April 27-May 1; March 13's tapings air April 20-24 with an extra episode TBD. This week is a "compilation" week where every episode was taped a different day, and next week is reruns.

I believe you would be right that they tape at least a good months in advance, so I imagine it won't be at least a couple of months before whatever episodes that they taped without an audience will be seen.

As with the Vanna-hosted episodes from December and January, the winner's family stood at the edge of the stage, and audience applause and laughter was dubbed in, although unlike those episodes, this one did not dub in a shot of an applauding audience taken from a previous episode.

Because this episode got moved up so much earlier than its originally-planned air date, there was an odd editing error in some, but not all markets. Apparently, they realized at the last minute that they forgot to add a SPIN ID when a contestant won the $10,000 Mystery Wedge, and some stations did not get the revised version in time, so several stations, especially on the East Coast, ended up airing an unfinished edit where there was an awkward pause of Pat and the contestants standing idle as the announcer read a placeholder for the SPIN ID (it is not read when the episode is taped; the announcer pauses and it's dubbed in closer to the air date). WABC New York got the version with the SPIN ID, but neighbor WTNH in New Haven, CT did not.

Interesting, as I got the Spin ID here (on KNDO Yakima). I also get KOMO Seattle on cable but it's blacked out at prime access so I can't check them.
BTW insane episode. Anyone who missed it can see highlights on Wheel's YT page.

Apparently the entire Pacific Time Zone had the "right" episode print. (EDIT: It just aired in Hawaii and it was the "wrong" one)

The "wrong" one can be seen here, as seen on WHP in Harrisburg, PA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1mDhOGPh3A&t=6m47s (6:47 mark)

Boy that was awkward...just viewed the clip. They look so happy that (spin ID withheld) is getting the $10K. I hope channel 21 announced the Spin ID on their social media for the viewers.

I know he was just kidding but Alex announced the nine semi-finalists in the College Tournament and realized wait … that's only eight. Oh, that must mean we have a semifinalist from today's show!
