Jeopardy & Wheel Of Fortune

M.J. said:
As I recall, WWNY/7 in Watertown, NY aired Jeopardy! at 7 PM and Wheel following. I might be thinking of another station in the area.

It was not long ago Wheel and Jeopardy! were seen on different channels in most of Canada. Jeopardy! aired at 7:30 on virtually all CTV stations, while the station Wheel aired on varied from market to market. In Ontario it was on the NewNet stations (later A-Channel) where available, or simply only available from a U.S. station on cable. Some areas including Manitoba had it on the CTV station. Nowadays both air in their normal timeslots nationally on CBC, excluding CBET Windsor where WDIV has the rights for Detroit.

WWNY does air Jeopardy at 7 and Wheel at 7:30. So does WPTZ/WNNE in the Plattsburgh/Burlington DMA. I have always wondered why more stations did not do this... Wheel is the higher rated program.

It seems to me that you would want the highest rated program as the Lead in. So Wheel at 7 and then Jeopardy at 7:30 seems to make more sense. But I know that it's just the opposite schedule in many cities where Jeopardy is on first.

In theory, Wheel at 7:30 would, however, deliver a better audience into the primetime schedule. And by this point, despite whatever impact the multitude of channel choices, DVRs et al have had, you've got that pattern established and working well, so there's no need to change.
