In reading Chicken Feed's ramblings on an earlier post, " I don't think they
( WJER ) will be missed. " What planet are you living on ? While 'JER is not the end all & be all of small-market stations, the station clearly has a track record for serving Tusc. Co.

Is this to say 'TUZ doesn't ? No, not at all. But, because Ed S. at the Country Connection has fewer people working for him, he doesn't have the ability to be as visible as 'JER does in the county. Petricola has a fairly significant payroll - in terms of number of people collecting checks - ( at least in comparison to most small market stations in America in '06 ).

I think both stations serve Tusc. Co., it's just that 'JER can do more because they have more people to do it with.

To say they won't be missed is either a) flaming ignorance on your part or
b) an attempt to fan the flames on this post board, so morons like me will
respond :)

First and foremost this is just my opinion; According to the T/R only 13 people complained to the FCC about the station leaving. That isn't in my opinion a groundswelling of support out of a county of approx. 45,000.

I do agree with you on that; My point is that WTUZ offers everything WJER offered except the music format. News, Sports, Contests, etc. You name it.

I'm assuming this is just your opinion since that's obviously not factual. WTUZ is embedded in the Tusc. Co. landscape; You go just about anywhere and WTUZ is there...

lol; Obviously you're miffed about WJER leaving and me giving my personal opinion on the matter; I just think Tusc. Co. isn't going to lose much in regards to entertainment and news; If WTUZ wasn't there I would completely agree with you, but WTUZ offers the EXACT same stuff other than A/C music. Personally I stopped listening to WJER years ago when they started playing more commercials than music. If you're gonna miss the A/C format listen to WHBC, If you think you're going to miss the local news tune into WTUZ at the top of the hour....

You say, " Out of a county of about 45,000 " Try 85,000 ( check the
census #'s, it may be more than that ). And IF you know anything about radio, the fact that only 13 people responded to an FCC inquiry is probably a higher # than most in similar scenarios.

You say, " It must be my OPINION that 'JER is out more in the market, because 'TUZ is very visible. " You clearly DON'T listen very much, because between the two signals, there is NO comparison.

As for your inferences on the similarity in Sports & News coverage.... 'TUZ
DOES do a nice job for an operation with 1 stick and a whopping 3 full-time
on-air people.

If you want to look at #'s ( I don't know what they are exactly ), but 'JER has like 3 full-time people in the News Dept. alone.

Are you a bitter, ex-'JER dude/dudette who was so BAD on-air that
Petricola actually kicked you to the curb ? I wouldn't be surprised, 'cause you've posted 1,678 times more than anybody else since the sale/move of 'JER was announced way back in the 1800's ( OK, maybe it wasn't that long ago ).

As for the signals, I was talking about the fact that 'JER has 2 ( as in AM & FM ), NOT the wattage of the respective FM sticks. That's one of the reasons they have more presence.... More opportunities to do so. And I really hope you don't think that just 'cause 'TUZ has 6,000 as opposed to 101.7's 3,000 that their signal is twice as strong ( not even close ). If so, you badly failed Engineering 101.

More to say on the " on-air staffing " issue, but I have to go....... Time for me to drop another order of fries & nuggets into the searing, hot vegetable oil.

I'm sorry that Mr. Petricola fired you, but get over it. Then you can resume surfing Internet sites for places like the Brown Institute of Broadcasting. Maybe a few classes there will teach you something about radio.

Interesting thoughts...

WJER is Tuscarawas County's equivalent of WHBC. They're definitely not equal in terms of length of time on the air. What I mean is that WJER is the radio staple of Tusc. Cty. as WHBC is to Stark County. Definitely, WJER has a record for serving the area. WJER has been able to continue serving the area using a skeleton crew of what they once had and WTUZ has beaten WJER consistently in the ratings. So, I wouldn't say the "fairly significant payroll" comment applies here but it is unusual for a station in that market to have as many folks as they do. Many of the folks that do work there have other jobs.

The often-mentioned Ed Schumacher, Brad Shupe and others have been licking their chops for a long time at the chance to see this happen.

Gary Petricola's comment in the T-R (pasted below) is disturbing.
“We could be here until they decide we’re not going to be here,” Petricola said Tuesday. “It’s up to them (Clear Channel). I’m disappointed that they’re doing that. I’m disappointed that the commission saw it as something they could do. I have sadness about it, but that’s the way it is.”

OF COURSE moving the station is something they could do. It is a business decision.

The pay at a fast food place is alot better than what that radio station in the middle of nowhere (and other surrounding areas of said location) you are defending.
