JEREMY ROBINSON GONE FROM KSCS

M

Unbelievable. I've never seen anyone work so hard to bond a station with its listeners...just like the OLD DAYS. Here's a guy that's young, yeah, but he indeed GETS IT. Here's his note:

"Wow! I have loved this station since I was a kid, and so thankful to be apart of it!

My last day on KSCS will be tomorrow (Friday 3-20-09) and will move to ABC Radio in Dallas if all works out.

I grew up with The Dorsey Gang, and Bill Kinder and it was a dream come true to work here!!! I WILL continue listening to my favorite radio station. The Big 96.3 KSCS!!

I am so thankful for your support over the years, and hope to be back on DFW radio soon!

I will keep the Jeremy Show Network up to keep you posted on what I am doing....Sure hope you will stay a member!

God Bless!
:)
Jeremy"

So do you think he loved KSCS when he was employed at KPLX? Think it was his favorite radio station when he was at the Wolf and they were actively trying to forcibly retire the Dorsey Gang?

Or do you think maybe he loves the station so much (or tells us he loves the station so much) because he's trying not to burn a bridge?

I think this is like those memos when someone leaves that says 'we wish them well in their further endeavors', when everybody knows we really don't...

Silly me, I just took it at face value. But I know from the few times I've listened to Jeremy (no offense to him; it's just not my kinda music) that he loves his work, tries very hard, and makes that connection with the listeners. Once the Facebook Movement came along, there he was, putting together listener events ON HIS OWN and getting people on board for his near-daily Facebook postings. It was all on the web via various websites and mass emails before that.

I don't know where you're going with the rest of that...sheesh, that was 21 years ago when Dorsey made the switch to KSCS. Jeremy's KSCS listening days probably started after Dorsey moved, anyway. But I know Jeremy to be a pretty up-front guy who's genuine and not putting an ego trip on the air for all to admire...so no, I beg to differ with you. He, like me, would probably do it all for free just for the love of the art. I'm sure that's a foreign concept to many folks.

Sure, if he's trying to get on with ABC Radio, maintaining a positive goodbye at KSCS could be helpful with that transition, but it sounds like he wouldn't be badmouthing the station anyway.

re-read it for comprehension ;)

Where I was going with that is that Jeremy worked at the Wolf a few years back, when they (KPLX) was doing much better than KSCS. Don't you think the KPLX staff was trying to do well enough in the ratings to force Dorsey off the air? You don't think he was part of a team trying to end Dorsey's career?

If he was taking a check from KPLX, and his favorite station was KSCS (as he says) there are really only 2 options. He's a whore or a hypocrite. Either he'll take money for working anywhere, even if it's a station that's trying to put his "favorite" station out of existence, or his favorite radio station happens to be wherever he's getting a check from...

On air, at least, he does seem to relay some enthusiasm for the work and makes some connection with the audience, which seems to be becoming a lost art. Between a 10AM-3PM shift and tracking a 7PM-Midnight shift and weekends, over the last couple of months, most of the time I flip by, he's the one the air.

It doesn't make him a whore OR a hypocrite. I didn't see him say that he couldn't imagine working ANYWHERE else. I read "I have loved this station since I was a kid...". I recall KSCS playing an audio clip of him as a junior radio ranger, or whatever they called it. Sounds to me like....yes....he has loved the station since he was a kid. Does your favorite radio station change? My favorite station used to be KISS-FM. Fast forward 5 years, and now it isn't even on my pre-sets anymore. This is my perogative, as I'm sure we agree Jeremy is allowed to change his mind, as well. The Wolf now is NOT what it was when he worked there. Could it have been his favorite station back then? Yes. Does it HAVE to be NOW? Come on. I used to work for a TV station in California. Was it our goal to be better than our competition? Of course it was. When a better opportunity presented itself at the "other" station, I gladly accepted. It was a better position, and helped me advance in my career. Whore? No. Hypocrite? Not so much.

When I got word that Jeremy was leaving, I turned to the internet to get more info. I came across this post, and am sorry I found it. I listen to KSCS during the work day and will miss his energy & personality very much. In my opinion radio would be much better if there were more Jeremy Robinson's out there.

Kind Regards,

But maybe just a little. It's something that all of us in radio face. A la "I just spent 3 years at station X trying to put station Y out of business, and now station Y is offering me a lot more money to return the favor to station x".

Is it hypocritical to do that? Are all of us willing to do anything for money? Why do we choose to work somewhere? And what loyalty (if any) do we owe that employer.

If these jobs are just that, jobs, it's no big deal to go from doing job a to job b, even if job b is to try to kill job A. But when you start throwing around 'it's my favorite radio station' you raise red flags. If I'm hiring someone, I want their favorite station to be the one paying their bills. I want them thinking about how we can make the station better, how we can kill the competition....

What's the matter with you all. Hypocrite? whore? Here is one of the hardest working guys in the business and while working at KPLX ( because he was able to get a job there) still had a dream to be on 963. What's so hard about that. These times are what they are, Citadel has destroyed one of the greatest broadcast groups ever, so the guy still has to earn a living, and is way unsure what his future is, if any at KSCS. Not a whore, just smart enough to figure out whats best for him. Isnt that what we all do.

little1 - If you knew Jeremy personally you'd know that he's not the slick opportunist you seem to think he is. Jeremy's a good guy, and quite frankly KSCS WAS his dream station. While he was at The Twister he and I would always talk about him getting a gig at KSCS. When the news came down that he was moving across the hall he called me and about deafened my one good ear he was so excited.

I catch your drift about loyalty, I really do, but this isn't the 1970s anymore. People who put in their 40 years for one company and get the Rolex at their retirement party are LONG gone. Neither companies nor employees are loyal anymore. When I got my first medium market gig in college, I knew I was working for the crap station, and I wanted to get good enough to work for the market leader. That didn't preclude me from going into work at the bottom-feeder knowing I had a job to do, and if I wanted to get to the bigs I had to be the best I could be and be a team player.

Agreed, Neal. I took a board-op position with WBAP with the hope that I would someday segue to KSCS. I did, I was there for several years, and it was awesome. I know how Jeremy feels. ;)

I don't agree. I think sometimes they really do mean it, and other times they don't. It depends on little things like the nature of the departure, and how good or bad the working relationship was at the time.

Sadly the burning bridges thing works in both ways, with either the employer or the employee starting the fire.

What's wrong with not burning a bridge? In this industry where you can burn a bridge just looking at someone the wrong way. At least he's not spewing venom. Smart guy. Don't be an asshole LITTLE1

In 1986 Dorsey was named CMA Major Market DJ Of The Year. Bobby Craig, the PD at KPLX was a good friend of Terry's Believe me, NO ONE at KPLX was trying to get rid of Dorsey...good grief, he was the rating leader at the station. Dorsey left because John Hare at KSCS offered Terry about 4 times more money to move to KSCS. It was a pure ratings decision by KSCS and ABC. Jeremey had NOTHING to do with Dorsey leaving and was totally out of the loop and didn't have a clue about any of what was going on. If anyone was trying to get rid of Dorsey at KPLX they were an idiot and probably would have been fired by Susquehanna. Dorsey was their GOLDEN BOY getting them ratings and mega ad revenues.

OK, something went very wrong in this thread. Jeremy Robinson would have been, perhaps, 8 years old in 1988 when Dorsey moved to KSCS. Unless he was passing out petitions to his 3rd grade class or something, I really doubt he had a thing to do with Dorsey leaving KPLX for KSCS.

No kidding.

And re-reading this old thread, maybe I was a little harsh, but my underlying point still stands out.

Imagine Jeremy as Brad Pitt ( In know it's a stretch, but just go with it). He's hooked up with Jennifer Aniston, leaves her to hook up with Angelina Jolie. Nothing wrong with that, people leave wifes, GF's, lovers all the time.

I just think it's unseemingly if Brad comes out and says 'yeah the whole time I was with Jen I was dreaming of being with Angelina". I don't fault him for the leaving. If he no longer loves Jen (KPLX) leave her for Angelina (KSCS).

I just think it sounds really odd to talk about how much you love a station that you were at one point actively trying to drive out of buisness.
