Jerome Gray leaving KHOU for KPRC

Jeromes move to 2 is going to be quite a shakeup for the houston viewer. I can see it from a career decision, the man wants to move up in his job and Belo just isnt really that progressive in its business practices. As a move by KPRC to "appease" the "angry black community leader contingent", I wouldnt doubt it. But lets be honest as well, Linda Lorelle and Khambrel Marshall arent that great as anchors and were more than likely sent back to "the minors" to either:

A) Burn out the remander of their contract(s)

or

B)Actually get practice and hone their craft.

My vote is for A, as these two frankly stink and it would be better for KPRC to rid themselves of their substandard product.

Linda and Khambrel "aren't that great" and should be "sent back to the minors"? They're two of the best, classiest and most experienced anchors in town. Unfortunately, they're trapped at a crappy station that's self-destructing before our eyes. If you think they suck, I'd love to know which anchors in Houston float your boat.

I tend to agree with this. Linda Lorelle is a superb talent, and has that confidence about her that shines through as you watch her deliver the newscast. Khambrell Marshall I can take or leave. Ok talent, he just comes off as a so-so talent. One day he is flawless, the next he is laced with mistakes and stumbles.

My all time favorite: Dominique Sachse....She can break my news anyday.

I second that on Dominique, still lookin hot after she had a baby and all.
I'll go also a little bit lighter on Linda, she isnt too bad, in fact has done alot for breast cancer research and has put together some decent packages. Khambrel though, comes off as a rank amature at times. Some of that is his fault, other times it can be atributed to poor production,managment,ect..

...Maybe Jerome Gray taking a position in the News2Houston bullpen will straighten out alot of these problems as well. It did well for KTVT 11 in dallas when Tracy Rowlett moved in and took a more dedicated approach to reporting the news, they're now one of the top watched 5/6/10p newscast in the market. You have to also remember in television, as with any other medium, is that you have to show confidence in your product. Thats been a big issue at 2 for a good while and its shown both on and off air. I wish Jerome lots of luck in his new endeavor.

Great move for KPRC and a great move for Jerome. KPRC appeases an angry black community and Gray gets more of what he wants. Jerome Gray is one of the most intellegent people in a TV news journalist role that you would ever meet. He is also extremely personalble. He also has a very smart agent that I know very well. Both jumped on the opportunity to reach a desperately struggling Channel 2. I'm sure Jerome got an big pay boost as well as everything else. KPRC TV used to be a juggernaut in news, but when Steve Wasserman came in in the late 80's or early 90's and moved Nancy Shafran into the ND position the news went into a tabloid format laced with sensationalism and empty suit anchors and reporters. That strategy worked for them occassionally, but in the long run they let KHOU run past them as Peter Diaz (KHOU GM) made sure his station delivered real news by real professionals. Jerome Gray was part of that KHOU strategy and KPRC is real lucky to get a piece of that. I hope they use that talent well and get back into the news business. Their ratings can surely use a boost, not to mention their weak talent pool of anchors and reporters. KPRC should now look to KRIV and see if they can snag Jan Jeffcoat from their morning newscast. She is a real talent, not to mention the babe factor. Knowing KRIV as I do, they probably treat her like crap and pay her next to nothing compared to what she could make at an outfit like KPRC. She single-handedly has been responsible for KRIV's dramatic rise in the morning news ratings in the last year. The rest of KRIV's talent, in all their newscasts, is amateurish at best and doesn't even compare to the weakest KPRC has to offer. I would be licking my chops if I were Jeffcoat's agent knowing that KPRC would probably pay a king's ransome to get a talent of her caliber to join their morning anchor crew as they try to recover from their abortion of a news department that Wasserman created. KPRC can recover. Jerome Gray is a great first move.

When I moved to Houston in 1997, I tried to give KPRC a chance. They failed again and again with their fluff infotainment (back in the day I called them Infotainment2Houston, later Useless2Houston) and sensationalized coverage. It stunk, and viewers knew it...only it seemed no one ever told the suits at KPRC that no one was watching.

When they made the flip to "Local 2" during the 2004 Olympics, they seemed to, almost overnight, discover that Journalism begins with a "J" not an "I," sadly that was short-lived and by the first sweeps period they were back to the infotainment fluff.

They've never, in the 8 years I lived in Houston before I moved to Mississippi (in March), took their audience seriously and, therefore, the audience never took them seriously. Sure the "watch 2 win" stunt pulled in some viewers but they all quickly realized how crappy the station was and quit watchign when contest time was over. The "Nightbeat Team" pulled in some viewers if only to watch Dominque's <censored> bounce during a newscast with Linda glaring in the background. And sure the "Dog at the desk" stunt pulled in some viewers for the "cuteness" factor. All those "new" viewers quit watching after a while because their product is like so much chinese food: you only want it once or twice a week or else you go to bed still hungry.

Only time will tell if this is a change to the more serious for KPRC or if Jerome Gray is going to be only so much window dressing for "Uniquely" Dominque Sachse.
