Jerome Gray out at KPRC 2- Houston

According to the Chronicle, Channel 2 decided not to renew Jerome Gray's contract "for economic reasons"
I suspect he just isn't pretty enough for Channel 2 anymore.

Probabaly didn't sensationalize the news enough!

If money is tight, you can get rid of 10, 15, even 20 rank and file staffers. Or you can get rid of one anchor. Looks like KPRC chose the latter. Any word of other layoffs at Channel 2?

Jerome didn't make THAT much. Maybe 4 or 5 underlings were saved. But, let's be honest here, it was pretty obvious when they brought the new guy, Iain Page, in that he was gonna take a higher profile spot than weekends, where they had him parked initially. Page, I can almost guarantee, will take Jerome's spot. With ratings as low as they are, they have to find someone to blame.

How many years would you have to go back to find a point where Channel 2 had respectable ratings?

Probably the late 80/early 90s, right before Stone and Johnson's forced "retirements" and the Post/Newsweek tabloid makeover.

That station is a joke. And yes I do agree he should've stayed at KHOU.
I do wish Mr. Gray all the best in his future endeavors. He deserves better anyway.

It's unfortunate that KPRC shed Jerome because his salary is out of line. However, it is a economic reality of the business these days and Post Newsweek is far ahead of the curve on that issue. I have it on very good authority that Jerome's departure is a pure economic decision. He did command and was paid a very high salary and according to my inside source. They were looking at cutting Bill Baleza, Dominique Sachsa or Jerome for salary savings and they went with senority. Personally, I believe they chose the wrong anchor. According to my source, Jerome will not be joining another broadcast operation anytime soon, but will be doing something somewhere in Houston. Sounds like an Internet thing coming. I wish Jerome all the best. He's a class guy and can do better than KPRC.
