Jerry Allison, drummer for Buddy Holly and The Crickets, dead at 82

I guess that leave Sonny Curtis as the sole surviving member of the Crickets. Sonny is 85 and still plays every now and then.

Sonny is perhaps best known for writing the hit "I Fought The Law" in the 60s.

Jerry was a co-writer of the song, and is mostly playing the tom toms. Norman Petty engineered the recording, and switched between straight mic of the drum and a flanging technique, which was somewhat new at the time. That's what gives the drums their unique sound. You can hear the effects switching in and out during the recording. There is a stereo remix where this is even more evident.
