JERRY DEL CORE FIRED!!!!!!!!!

Yup. It's true. Jerry is gone after just 21 months. He dumped Gene & Julie, moved Viva from 105.3 to 105.7, dropped Cool and moved Randy & Spiff to Lite, moved Buzz from 96.7 to 105.3, brought back the Regular Guys, brought in new PDs at most of the stations. Lately, Viva's been slipping, GST has been hemmorhaging and Lite has been light on the ratings. 96rock has been somewhat flat and the Buzz is the only station showing much progress. In the latest trend, not a single CC Atlanta station was in the top 10 12-plus and things weren't much better in the key demos. Clearly, whatever he did wasn't enough for Hogan & Co. in San Antonio.

Del Core's replacement: some guy named Chuck Deskins from Clear Channel Tampa. Anybody know anything about him?

see now Rodney, you got to use your little "CC didnt have a station in the Top 10" afterall. Didnt I tell you there was an appropriate time for this?
Also, I'm gonna miss the guy who posts on here as Jerry DelCore, too. So much bitterness and now...where does it go?

I say this will be a marked improvement for the Atlanta market. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Jerry, just he was not what Atlanta needed. I hope CC can put him somewhere that he does fit and does make the right changes.

Rodneys list says a lot of good things, if not quick fix things, that JDC accomplished. VIVA was a smart move, Randy and Spiff it seems are better placed at LTM than at COOL and probably the best thing going there, Regular Guys seem to have been a well recieved , upgraded the Buzz...these things are in the "good" pile. I dont think the Braves was in his camp but he's had to live with the result of compromising the product of KLS and the effects of a bad financial deal. GST is in transition with changes, but at least, however unpopular to this board, he had the guts to do them. He cant make the signal better. Too bad, hate to see anyone not get the time they deserve to let changes percolate into success. No guarantee they would have, but it seemed that there was a plan. but...what do I know.

DING DONG, THE WITCH IS DEAD....

You know, people usually feel bad when a radio station fires a good guy, who's liked and respected.

I wonder how people feel about Del Core getting axed???

By the way, if you want to offer your "best wishes" to him, Jerry's cellphone number is: 404-754-4992.

;D

Here's what I can't figure out. You have people on this blog who do nothing but complain about WGST and how bad they are, but when someone makes chages, and often that means firing people and trying something different, those same people compalin about the firings. Jerry is probably happy to be gone. Let's face it, going up against WSB is not an easy task. I'm also tired of people blaming the Braves deal. It worked for them in the 90's, why not now. They had to go after the Braves, at least it gave them a sense of satisfaction that thet beat We're Such Buttheads at something.

Nice try. VIVA was launched before Del Core and has dropped in ratings under his watch. The Regular Guys just had their worst book ever as did Lite. The "gutsy changes" at GST has resulted in a nearly 60% fall in adult ratings and an even bigger drop in revenue. The only mystery is why they didn't blow him out sooner.

No bitterness...and by the way, could I interest you an extra value meal?

Jerry D!! Don't go changing. And, actually, I was the one who was gonna offer you a n extra value meal. So Jerry D: What exactly is your story with the "other" Jerry D?

I agree, if they had only given Ken Lay more time to turn things around at Enron.

Yes, it gave them the satisfaction of beating SB at paying 65 million for 5 years just weeks before MLB made them look like chumps by announcing the deal with XM that cut the price of all baseball radio rights fees.

Brilliant!

They really showed SB with that one! Way to go Hogan!

Good point, why does Hogan still have job? I can tell you at the rate they're going, Clear Channel won't even recoup 20 of the 65 million Hogan was suckered into paying.

Anyone know of a good moving company?

I've had some business dealings with Jerry Del Core and have high regard for him both professionally and personally. He made some very smart moves in my opinion. And yes, sladd, he didn't invent Viva, but he did have the foresight to move it to 105.7, where it reaches the growing Hispanic population in Gwinnett County.

I don't know the specifics regarding his firing, but I think the cluster's current poor performance has a lot to do with things that were a little out of Jerry's control, such as signals and in the case of 96 Rock, the obligation to carry the Braves (which was decided upon before Jerry arrived).

Understandably, Clear Channel wants better results today. It's just the way of the world in 2006.

I wish Jerry Del Core the best.

They had the exact same signals and twice the listeners before Del Core arrived.

I too hold JDC in very high regards. We've all found ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Wishin' you the best Jerry!

Has anybody else noticed the many GM departures from CC in the recent past? Indy, Raleigh, Boston, Lexington, ATL.

ClearChannel has not figured out how to manage 1200 radio stations!
And it's a REAL job too! Think about it.....this is a totally new business model and there are no experienced leaders here. Many of the CC properties are bleeding money(not just ATL) and the managerial talent is just not there!
And radio, as a business and medium, is rapidly evolving into.....well....who knows what! The paradigms are changing and most of the leadership is just plain lost
In what direction will this business head?
A huge problem: Radio executives DO NOT understand SHOW BIZ!! Bean counters control the programming elements and the average PD, while a whiz at research and testing, knows nothing about entertainment and has no "gut" feel for music or talent.
Don't be surprised at his poor performance......there is not one single radio executive who has a clue when it comes to programming or leadership....at least that I have heard of. Controlling expenses....maybe yes. Sales, and weasel words.....developed to an art.. Radio visionary? No!
