Jerry Doyle Takes over Savage old TRN spot

The lazy Weiner has been pre-recording his last hour and obviously has contempt for both his audience and employer...

The press release confirms it.

"Jerry shows up 5 days a week, 3 full hours a day because his work ethic is second to none."

Weiner was lucky that TRN didn't fire his lazy ass and continued to pay him a $10 million salary.

Presumably, Weiner has another more lucrative gig lined up... Hopefully nobody will be ready to pay him what he was making with TRN and he'll end up looking like an idiot for walking away.

Uh, co-owner with his son of Rock Star energy drink.

I know some of Michael Savage-Weiner's Books back in 1970's did promote the use of Pot.

If that venture was doing well, he could have quit his show long ago instead of spending years on a lawsuit to escape from TRN and be eligible to sign with another network.

It definitely sounds like the guy wants a radio gig.

Well definitely. Like many successful people such as Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, and Steve Jobs, the attraction is in doing what you want to do, not in the money. Surely people here would recognize that radio is in his blood. But the question was about other lucrative gigs and I was saying that he HAS other lucrative gigs, and I was implying that the money coming from the radio gig is not the motivation for his talkshow.

Savage has clearly lost his motivation for radio and is in it just for the $$$.

He started to pre-record his third hour with awful taped interviews. He literally introduces the guest and then lets the guest
ramble on for 15 minutes. All so he could avoid doing live radio and taking phone calls.

And when he does take calls, it's mostly from carefully screened callers who gush over him. The few times he does take dissenting calls, he quickly cuts them off in under a minute.

He has no passion for radio. Put it this way: If he could earn more money selling his drinks he wouldn't be doing radio.

He has become angry and bitter.

Or it could be that he has changed the formatics of his show to work better with PPM. The 15 minute block is now THE way to do talkshows. I was talking with Gil Gross about this a few weeks ago. If you notice, he changes topics every 15 minutes and seldom takes calls. He told me that he does this specifically because of the PPM periods -- gotta keep the topics fresh every 15 minutes or it's too easy to lose listeners. PPM relies on 15-minute blocks of time and transponders reflecting actual listening. The old days of filling out diaries and *saying* that you listened to X station are gone. A station has to keep goosing up those quarter-hour ratings.

And when he does take calls, it's mostly from carefully screened callers who gush over him. The few times he does take dissenting calls, he quickly cuts them off in under a minute.

First, people tend to listen to talkshow hosts they agree with, so it's not unusual to hear people gushing about the host. Ever listen to Gil Gross? Callers gush over him all the time. And cutting off callers in under a minute is not unusual for any host, either. In fact, it's a sign of a GOOD talkshow host, because a good host listens for content and delivery. The trick is to get the caller off the air before they become boring or annoying. About the only talkshow host I can remember in recent memory who let callers ramble on was Gene Burns -- that that was not pretty.

He has become angry and bitter.

Huh? He's always been angry and bitter, or at least he's played that part for 20 years.

Sal, clearly you did not listen. He doesn't need the money, and hasn't for some time. He cares about this nation, unlike most in California. If you listened, you would know he only stays in the Bay Area because he loves it, in spite of Castro weiners on display. ::)

Whether you like it or not, he is a self-made millionaire. Helping your son start an energy drink company, that happens to be very successful, should be admired, not scorned. I really love Punch Red myself. :p

Jerry Doyle is doing a great job. He obviously does much show prep. The show moves well, and has great guests. Like Dr.Savage, Jerry has contempt for both D's and R's.

Jerry is a great guy and does a ton of prep. Had him to the City several times to do his show, and for a couple of left vs right debates. He knows his stuff.

Doyle does a fine job and has a good work ethic and actually shows up 5 days a week for 3 hours.

I have been listening to Savage since Day 1 when he started on KGO. The guy has gotten fat and lazy and the show has gone downhill in recent years.

Even stooping to constantly begging his listeners to pay for his legal defense for being banned in the UK. A guy making 10 mill can pay for his own friggin defense...

Now the guy is charging 5 bucks to listen to a 1 hour internet stream. $5 bucks PER SHOW. What a clueless greedy little twit.

Obviously, The most boring radio consists of taking calls almost exclusively with those that agree with you.

Savage is an  intelligent guy capable of debating opposing callers. There are many eloquent articulate callers on hold  (college professor types, etc) who want to respectfully engage in dialogue...  But he will just rudely cut them off after a few seconds.

I listen mainly for the health and restaurant stories, but the political discussion had become one-sided and tiresome.

Best of luck to Jerry Doyle and lets hope that the Weiner rides off happily into retirement.

No - just Savage. The former Labour government under Tony Blair actually banned him a few years ago, but the current conservative government announced that they would keep the ban. IIRC- Savage said something incendiary that the British government didn't appreciate. Though they never specified what he actually said, they banned him based on the theory that his incendiary rhetoric could cause violence.

We take freedom of speech for granted in the US, but it Britain it's not so clear-cut. Their justification for keeping the ban is that there is no evidence that he didn't make the unspecified statements he is charged with. I'm no fan of the Savage Wiener, but that's hardly a high standard of justice.

Britain also has very strict liable laws. It's much easier to 'liable' another person there by making a public statement or printing an article about them, and you can not only be sued in civil court, but - as I understand it - charged criminally in some cases.

If you are referring to the written or printed version of defamation, I believe that is called libel. Slander is the verbal version of same.

You are correct. I know the difference...uh...because I just now looked it up on the internet.
