Jerry G. Bishop Passed Away Today

Whether he was Jerry G...Jerry G Bishop..or Svengoolie, he was one very talented man. Thanks for bringing a smile and a laugh to our lives over the years!

I'm listening to his work right now as Judge Judy's announcer!

For some reason, his name doesn't seem to readily come to mind whenever there's a discussion of the giants of Chicago Top 40 radio. It should. He was a very talented and entertaining man. RIP, Jerry.

Bishop traveled with the Beatles---perhaps some of you have heard of them---during their 1965 and 1966 US tours.

Being sandwiched between Jim Runyon and Howard Miller as the morning man at WCFL probably explains his omission from the giants of Chicago radio. But he was a giant in Chicago due to his work at WCFL, WMAQ and WFLD. Then factor in his TV and radio work and restaurants in San Diego and you realize what a talent Jerry G.was. Here's how the Son of Svengoolie remembers him: http://svengoolie.com/?p=6789 So hard to realize most of the WCFL greats from the Ken Draper era are no longer with us.

His work at WMAQ was also outstanding. His timing with the drop in sound effects and laughter made the show a must listen every morning.

Saw sad news in Orange County paper. He was 77 and last heard on now defunct KPOP, I believe, it was a standards station and he also held a Saturday shift on now defunct WRRL in Chicago. He owned a restaurant in San Diego area. I sure enjoyed his smooth delivery, of course, he was a star in Chicago in 60's on WCFL and was the Svengooli host of scary movies on channel 32.
