Jerry Lewis telethon

There was a time it was a bigger deal. Almost every radio station sent people to appear on the local breaks. Guess these days there aren't enough people left at radio to do it, plus the audience share for the telethon is probably only about 10% of what it was before the days of cable tv, dvds, the internet & video games. The WXIN feed around 3p on Monday sounded like the audio was running through a pitch shifter. Jerry Lewis and Brian Wilkes voices were pitched down. Even the women had low voices. Strange effect for a telethon.

Here in Louisville, WAVE 3 dropped the telethon a few years back, and it is now on the local CW affiliate WBKI. One radio station (WAKY, the oldies station) provides host for the 9am to noon segment. I really wonder what will happen to the telethon once Lewis is unable to continue. I never even bothered to tune in, since I no longer can pic up the signal in our digital world.

Who was MCing the show? Jan Carl? I think Ed Mcmahon was still trying to help out up until last year. Did you see anything of Casey Kasem?

He never did sing "Great Balls of Fire."

My mistake. That was the Jerry LEE Lewis telethon. Now, THAT would be a great telethon....maybe to benefit teenage mothers.

Thoughts?

Yeah, you're about 40 years too late with that joke. I'm 42 and barely get the reference!
