Jerry O'Neil Out at WFLF

When did this go down? Jerry was one of the few survivors. He was a talented host, with a background in talk radio. He was a lot of fun to listen to over the years, and seem to do well for Clear Channel. Wish him the best.

Jerry saw the writing on the wall and quit. I say good for him and wish him the best of luck elsewhere. He'll be much more appreciated probably on 1080. If you think for 1 minute that 540 is gonna stick with this news/sports hybrid you better think again. I sense Sileo will eventually move to Tampa for WDAE and this nonsense at night will last maybe a month... You read it here first.

So in one week the "Shot Doctor" has lost his buddies at WJRR and his longtime co-host in Jerry. Could this finally be the end of this one joke golf nut? The magic 8 ball says "Yes".

I heard that they were going to put Crash on with the Shot Doctor.....

Hell, clear channel keeps moving that dude around, why not??????

i dont belive Jerry "left" They whacked Pat, Taco and jerry all at the same time.
thats enough money to save CK for 1 more year, and thats what this is all about.
And the Shot Doctor is very good at that role, th shame is, Jerry is the guy who made it all
work. But your talking well over 6 figures in combined salary, so CK gets to stay. Hey to any of
you that are left, start looking arounnd, you are up.

I'm more of a spectator when it comes to this board (obviously, since this is my first post) but just wanted to chime in. Jerry definitely left on his own accord and was certainly not fired. On top of his on-air duties, he was also a full-time account manager so the 740-540 merger also merged two sales teams which probably had a lot to do with his decision. There is now somewhere between mid to upper digits of sellers for 540. Not to mention, working from 8 am to 9 pm everyday can certainly take its toll....

that's a bit unfair, intimating they pushed Jerry our to help pay C.K.'s salary.

Jerry did leave of his own accord, which he is perfectly right to do if he feels it's best for he and his family.

I worked at 540 the team with jerry oneill about seven years ago, we worked his butt off. Sold the show, did his research, whatever it took. He did mornings, remotes, weekends.......and you could tell he cared about the product. I always didn't agree with his sports opinions, but that's sports talk radio. He often worked those 12 hour days. Bottom line this is a person your company would want to have working for it to ensure its success. Not cheap channel.......

I know it's been said a thousand times but they are killing radio.

Quite the shame what's going on in the Central Florida sports talk radio universe. Looks like the big bang has occurred and the pieces are scattered here and there. The format at 540 is too choppy and untimely. Sports seems an afterthought. Jerry leaving is a big blow to the show, especially since he was the show, providing the focus and viewpoints that the other guys could bounce off of. The remaining crew is likeable but I really struggle to stay tuned. I find myself slowly fading away.

Look, jerry cared to much to just quit. CK is trying to save his own job. He put people in
bad places , and they left. Saves his rather larger A@@. It's well known here. so dont bring that
" i know whats going on, because i listen" you have no idea, what it's like to walk these halls.
and CK only cares about himself. otherwise, what does he really do?

This is what I see happening.....

Jerry O'Neil teaming up with Brady Ackerman and hiring a well known former CC on-air personality/producer as their producer.

I'm not sure who you were referring to with the "no idea what its like to walk these halls", because I have walked those halls. This had nothing to do with CK and his salary. Yes, Jerry got put in a bad place, but was only put in that place because he is an asset to CC. If they wanted to truly "wish him well in his future endeavors" why did the Finish Line even end up on 540? Because they wanted to keep him. Can you imagine talking to an audience that doesn't want to hear about sports and then also, trying to sell advertising for a station you're not passionate about? (because Jerry is all about passion) Jerry's not a quiter, so he didn't quit. He definitely didn't get fired, because they would have loved to keep him. The recent events (that were bigger than CK) were taxing for everyone there - I'm not sure how anyone can put on a smile and walk those halls. Jerry had enough and deserves better.

anyone remember CK when he was doing evenings on WLOF, late 70s.....as TC Dooley..............he was very good. i was in high school.

i guess he lost his soul to the corporate world and has forgotten how much fun radio was for him.

Well you better do Jerry a favor and let him know he cared too much to quit, and therefore he shouldn't have quit. It's obvious you harbor some grudge against management in Maitland, and you can blame CK, LB, CKY, Y2K, the YMCA, or WHOEVER but if you are trying to claim that you are walking these halls in CC Maitland....the take your fingers out of your ears and start listening - you might learn a thing or two.

Skrape, i am so dissapointed with you. you know better, dont be a shill.
look at the above poster's, they know. lost souls to save own A$$. Now get off that
computer, they are watching in the room across from Mexican music madness 740.
And ream the posters above me, seems they agree. But dont be a LB /CK kool-aide guy.

ThaT is what is going to happen. I hear it will be this upcoming Monday. Jan 21. Now if only if 1080/1060 will get rid of Ackerman again and replace him with Steve egan ESPN Orlando will have a great Afternoon sports show.

Jerry is a sales rep for Clear Channel and has had some health issues, doubt you will see him on the air with with another radio group in Orlando

Chris K. appears to be running 2500 into the ground, he makes Buddy Bud Paxson seem like Mel Karmazin. That's great news about Jerry and Stunning Steve going to ESPN, except 1080 has slighty more watts then a light bulb. It's a great move Clear Channel turning a 50,000 watt station to Mexican oldies! What narrow casting bud!

Steve Egan is making money hand over fist with the Atlanta Braves so he will not be back. It will be Jerry, Brady and a very talented, yet underrated producer of Jerry's choosing (HOPEFULLY!!!)
