what happened to Jerry Steffen and the 70s at 7 on WMMO? Cheers 8) ???

Thats a shame. Is it thats many stations are feeling the economic times? These two DJs were a big part of WMMOs personality.

Let's hope that they keep the 70's at 7.....

Where else can you hear a lost Boz Scaggs tune or "Baby Blue" from Badfinger?????

Q105 in tampa plays baby blue by badfinger and several boz scaggs tunes........

didn't jerry do WX for channel 6 for a time????

Jerry did do WX on 6. Perhaps someone still in town can fill in whether he'd kept it up during recent years.

I think Jerry and Jay were the last holdouts from the pre-Cox/Newcity era. It will be interesting to see whether a change this major shakes the connection listeners have had with this unique station.

Jerry was already there when I arrived in 1991; I later hired Jay for part-time, and he made the most of the opportunity. Both these guys are pros, but it's a brutal time to be out of work in radio. I wish them both the best.

Two of the nicest guys I worked with in radio. Jerry is also the head of the Central Florida Green Bay Packer Backers club. We spent many a Sunday afternoon watching our beloved Packers with a huge group of similar minded fans.

As far as I know, Jerry was still doing weather for Channel 6 as of a couple of years ago.

Ironically, when I was working for Cox back in the late 90's, Jay Francisco was already talking about going to another station/market. Yet he lasted far longer than I did.

Hope they both find work. Who did MMO replace them with?

I worked with these guys from '98-'03. They are true professionals and I wish them the best in finding new gigs. It's tough out there for air talent, that's for sure.

P.S. A shout out to my old pal Bill Cross as well. How are you, Bill?

Well, this truly sucks. And what a bad move, especially as concerns Jerry.

We hired Jerry in 1991, partly due to a recommendation from my mentor and friend Gary Guthrie. Originally, he was brought on to be the Kurt Loder of WMMO, doing music news reports live in morning drive. This led to a full time DJ position shortly thereafter. Jerry Steffen was the last link to the original format and all that represented.

I don't know Jay, but have heard good things about him. Hope you both land on cat's paws.

I have never been so pissed at a radio station in my life - even format changes have never angered me as much as I am now.

Jerry is still at WKMG Channel 6 CBS in Orlando, and according to an email I got from Chief Meteorologist Tom Sorrells, he will do "some" on air weather duties over the upcoming holidays (but not "much".

I know from here in Orlando that 98.9 WMMO has lost droves of listeners as a result of laying of Jerry and Jay Francisco. I for one have gone so far as to remove them from my radio's presets.

Prayers are with Jerry and Jay - I just can't imagine them finding any kind of open radio gig in this environment. Take care guys - you will be missed.

Somebody should tape a bunch of 70's at 7. Somebody should then jam JRR's signal while that AWFUL late Saturday metal show is on with the 70's at 7...

Wouldn't it be great to hear one of the jocks talking about how great Korn are and then have the signal break up, and have a cool Badfinger tune come on or "Runaway" from Jefferson Starship!!!!!

That would be pretty cool........

;D

That is why i have now boycotted the radio in this town. i have had enough. the only stations i listen to are wvlg and wprk on ocasion. aside from that, it is my transmitters all the way. oh yeah, i listen to wdbo for play by play of magic games and that is it. i am done with the radio here. good luck to both those guys.

nice line from the former WMMO PD

come back in will bite your kneecaps off....

the lost 70s was great stuff, before jerry i remember john summers playing some songs that brought me back to high school - sunday in salem - gene cotton; run joey run - david geddes; i'm easy - keith carradine; little willy - sweet; hard luck woman - kiss.....songs you just don't hear anyone play anymore, but easy to find on the internet...maybe that's what radio programmers are pushing us too......

What a damn shame. Jerry was great on the air, and one hell of a nice guy. I will never listen to WMMO again.
