Jerry Williams Question

Was looking at Jerry Williams.org the other day, and was reminded how much Williams used to slam The Beatles when they first came out in 1964. I also thought that it was incongruous to hear such slams over WMEX, the city's leading teen station at the time. I remember hearing him call them "dirty and untalented".

Anyone know whether or not he changed his tune later in life? I know that Jess Cain did. Jess used to slam them on WHDH around 1964, but I remember hearing Jess play "The Long And Winding Road" years later in the 70s (while still doing the HDH morning show) and calling it "a beautiful song".

Anyone know if Jerry still thought the Beatles were "dirty and untalented" later in life? He was soooo over the top about them back then!
 
Having worked closely with Jerry I never heard him slam any musical group since that is how he started in Philadelphia with his own band in the early 50's.
While I was just a kid when he was at WMEX, Jerry did say that when he was at MEX he followed Arnie "Wo Wo" Ginsburg and he had to get rid of all the kids who were still calling in requesting music. Still, he never mentioned the Beatles specifically. He was a great jazz buff as well as big band. Jerry was a big fan of Artie Shaw and Sinatra since he was an usher at the Paramount theatre in New York City as a kid when Sinatra played there.

Again, as to the Beatles I never heard him crticize them. Perhaps, he made some passing remarks in jest which were taken seriously as some of his remarks often were. You would have to see his facial reactions to really judge.

Jerry is sorely missed when you read the comments about one current pretender to the Dean's throne below.

It is a tribute to Jerry Williams that we are still talking about him two years after his death.

I never heard him say it, but certainly you can picture an iconoclast like JW saying it. He even got on guys of his own generation he liked. I remember him saying "Frank is so cool, he's actually square" meaning Sinatra took the whole Sinatra thing,too far. It wouldn't surprise me that the ultra-successful Beatles were a tough sell to Jerry.
