Jerry's last day

I'm surprised nobody's commenting on Jerry Thomas' last day. He made such a fuss about how he didn't want any special programming ("no tears") surrounding his departure, I thought it made him come off as kind of a jackass. Then today he delivers a tearful monologue concluded with Kenny Roger's cornball song "Through the Years" on his own.

He's either a control freak, or Clear Channel shoved him out before he was ready.

If anyone is impressed with themselves, Jerry Springer is. I remember a talk he gave to a history class in 1974 about how we need to "clean up the moral mess in this country". This was a year after he got caught paying for female companionship with a personal check. But at least he came clean. The only time he pays any attention to his old home area is when he considers running for some office. But that's alright; he was never from Cincinnati anyway.

That's a real interesting story, but the comment was about Jerry THOMAS.

I tuned into the last 15 minutes or so of his show just to see how it 'went down'.

That crying jag ending was definately not good. Especially that last song they played. I always thought Jerry was kind of a jerk, but that was not a very good way to go out. He did it to himself i guess though. If thats the way he wanted to be remembered...then so be it.

I can't see Jim Scott turning into a bag of goo like that when he goes, he's a professional. Jim should do it from a roof top, like the Beatles. Thats the way to end a good career.

Jim will retire with a lifetime supply of Grippos, Bil-Jac, a loaner Lincoln-Mercury vehicle and a collection of dairy and meat products from Trauth Dairy and the Kroger Co.

And then the era of "tradeouts" will cease on Cincinnati broadcasting. (My little prediction)

today is a great day, now that mr. thomas is gone. it is as though the radio-gods have heard my prayers of three years, and delivered in the form of jerry and craig leaving, giving lance competition, dropping air america, bringing in mancow, and booting mr. wadel (sp?) from 1530. i'm pumped about 2007, and what other changes could come about. my wish list still has the departure of skinner from 1530, the booting of gary burbank (either off air, or to a weekend time slot), and a vow from seg dennison to never do anyting but read copy.

happy new year!

Jerry Thomas has been a part of the radio landscape since the 60's. He deserves to go out anyway he wants.. I didn't hear the last day - does anyone have the audio?

I'm amazed that CC let him do that.. the control freaks let loose for a minute. I commend them.

Yes he is a control freak....Yes that's how he wanted to go out. Word from the inside is he wanted to do the teary goodbye and song. ok... I didn't cry, but after 44 years you can do what you want. I also heard he nixed the party because he didn't want to "sell" his retirement...I smell irony..

Masterofmuppets has to be an ex cc employee to be that bitter...It's just radio man! The world just keeps on spinning.

The audio is on the 55KRC podcasting page

Yeah, sometimes people read these boards and get confused about the proper topic.

Anyway, to get back to his last day and final farewell: I thought the quality of the video showing him swinging from the rope could have been better.

Don't be silly, he died from complications arising from pneumonia and heart problems during the last year. The video of him lying in state was first class and well produced.
