jersey guys?

So what's going on with jersey guys this afternoon? My roommate came in and told me they were only playing music (Baba O'Reiley as of 3:11), in protest of a trooper releasing Carton's personal info, in response to their talking about the "ticket blitz and slowdown" discussed on the trooper website (check your local papers). he said something about ray's personal info being released tomorrow? any idea what's going down?

all this came from what my roommate just came in and told me, so nothing in here is verified and i'm looking for info

My dad said the same thing this afternoon. He mentioned how Craig was on a Tyraid. They didn't say WHO specifically would have personal information released, they just mentioned SOMEBODY.

There were about 6 songs and a replacement came in. I didn't catch who it was but i JUST turned it on and heard him apologizing for the Jersey guys broadcast being pre-empted. But he did mention that they apologized for the Jersey Guys broadcast being aprubtly pre-empted. But they named a State police figure (top ranking it sounded) who had threatened the families of Craig and Ray, and that at this point Craig felt like his families safety came first.

I am not sure if they are JUST saying that or what the specifics of the ordeal are.

And if you haven't heard the top of the hour newscast that Millennium sponsors on almost all of its stations.. the station reported that the State trooper, David Jones, held a press conference today where he threated Craig and Ray. He released their personal addresses and other information as well.

He threatened and vowed to "Find the girl scouts who released this information" And also apparently the way the the anchor Raquel Williams spoke of other threats to Millennium. Millennium released a statement and has asked the state police to investigate.

I'm a little lost on the wording of your last paragraph?

He threatened and vowed to "Find the girl scouts who released this information"
Who is he? Dave Jones or a Millenium spokesman?

And also apparently the way the the anchor Raquel Williams spoke of other threats to Millennium.
Incomplete sentence?

I do apologize for not being clearer in my post. I was in a rush, and had a lot happening as I wrote that. To answer your questions..

Davy Jones said he would catch "the girl scouts" who leaked the information. Raquel Williams reported that Davy Jones also made other threats to Millennium Radio and its employees.

Perhaps this article will make it easier to understand:

Hmmm...methinks the Gestapo is pissed off that their little scheme was made public.
I used to think the NJSP was a professional organization. Not so sure I think that now.

I think we may be seeing the beginning of the end of the Jersey Guys.

While what the troopers are doing isn't right, the Jersey Guys are pissing off way too many people lately, and with five advertisers dropping spots due to the La Cuca Gotcha campaign and other ethnic and hate filled slurs, they are reaching a boiling point here.

NJ 101.5 has never had a show that has pushed things this far before, and the push back is starting.

A good summary of the many things the Jersey guys have done is here:

This will prove very interesting once "business" begins in the morning I'm sure. Especially since Millennium controls a very large amount of radio news in the state I would think this is going to be all over morning drive.

I have to wonder what the reaction is going to be from pulling advertisers due to whatever they're pulling them for this time (is it still la cucha gotcha?). Lots of big names have bailed out of the show in the past, some (PSE&G) have returned and pulled again... it almost seems as if the station doesn't bat an eye and it's almost expected.

And last, one seriously has to wonder what Davey Jones was thinking. When you're trying to gain public support for your organization, I'd think attacking and threatening the media and their family members and giving out personal information wouldn't be on the top of the list. He needs a new PR person methinks.

This story is also continuing proof that nothing you write on the internet is ever private. NEVER.

And no, you're not. Carton and Rossi are blessed by having management who stands up for them when there is pressure from external forces. It's one of the advantages of working for a smaller company like Millennium that's privately owned. Management like that is very rare to find. And just because they are losing advertisers doesn't mean they won't get them back or find new ones to replace them.

The ratings are there. The advertisers will come.

By "good" do you mean "biased"? Because you linked to a very left-leaning liberal blog, and I'm sure they'd have nothing but balanced views towards the conservative-leaning 101.5.

The timeline there is very straighforward and unbiased - it's only the commentary around the timeline that is left-leaning. In the timeline - those are facts that cannot be denied.

Just so I'm clear on this, there are people who think that the Jersey Guys should be fired for exposing an abuse of power in a government agency?

Uh.....Yeah. Who wants radio talk show hosts that expose government abuse?

Maybe they should just talk about puppies and kittens all day.

The Jersey Guys will be just fine.

Casey -

If you've not been up on the story - catch up. I'll give you a brief synopsis:

People do not want the Jersey Guys fired for their Coalition Against Corrupt Politicians.

People want them fired for the many racist statements they make that incite people to action against many different races - most recently their La Cuca Gotcha Campaign which although they stated it targeted all immigrants - the name and the day it was to end on (May 5) was clearly indicative of what they were after. When a local politician organized the Coalition Against Bigotry and Hate after being attacked for his heritage (Polish) - they launched ther corrupt politician thing in response to and to defensively deflect attention away from the immigration thing. They admitted on air this is why they did it - so it was a disingenuous gesture to begin with.

See the BlueJersey post for other things they've done. They have a history of inciting people to racist action, often causing advertisers to pull from their show.

Admittedly, I don't get to hear much of the Jersey Guys. I work the second shift, at Wegman's, and we're only allowed to listen to lite AC music in the stockroom. So, I can't speak to a lot of this stuff.

BUT, I do have to make one suggestion to the people who hate the Jersey Guys with such venom......You simply MUST get rid of those radios you have that only get in 101.5. There are dozens of other radio stations that you could be listening to. Yet, you refuse to get rid of these radios that only get one station. With the proper equipment, it is very easy to listen to other radio stations. In fact, if you own a car built after 1973, it may have something called "presets" in it. These are those extra buttons, right on the radio, that you can "program" to go directly to the station of your choice. That way you don't even have to look down, and tune the radio. You just push a button, and the Jersey Guys are gone. It's like magic.

I don't really know Craig and Ray. I've only met them once or twice. They seemed like very nice guys, and their show does very well. This is all very simple, though. If they crossed the line, they would be gone. If they didn't, they won't be. Simple. So, since they are still employed, you can assume that they have not crossed the line.

Now, if you will excuse me, I've got a whole shipment of Spiderman: 3 Cereal that has to get on the shelves.

"People want them fired for the many racist statements they make that incite people to action against many different races"

Define racism. Is racism when someone points out law breakers and the critics of these people who point out the law breakers scream, "You're picking on our people!"?

That's what happened. The Jersey Guys never made it a Latino issue. The phonies and media ho's who like to yell "Look at me!" made is an issue of nationality.

Chris -

You're pretty naive if you don't see it as racist to call a campaign "La Cuca Gotcha" and to have it end on Cinco De Mayo. They asked people to look for illegal immigrants and turn them into the authorities - I think it's pretty clear they are asking people to profile hispanics and look and see if they are illegals.

As I said the BlueJersey post details the other things pretty well. Inciting people to call Six Flags and demand extra security on Muslim Day at Great Adventure. Calling Sen. Lesniak a Polack. The flap with Edison Mayor Jun choi - these are things that cannot be denied and if they haven't crossed the line, they certain walk with millimeters of it.

Casey -

The issue is the fact that they continue to promote an attitude of stereotype and hate - in a day and age when we need to bring people together - not incite them to action in a racist manner. You can sarcastically tell people not to listen, but when they attack people in the way they do - it can;t be ignored. It's not just them saying what they do (which they have a right to do) but it is their inciting action in a racist manner.

Rob,

As soon as you can present one person who has been incited into a blatant, racist act, by the show, you might have a point. All you have to do is prove it. Easier said than done. In fact, virtually impossible.

Also, I'm not being sarcastic. If you don't like them, don't listen. Period. I don't like rap music. Not only is the music bad, but I find it offensive, and I think it degrades women. Therefore, I don't listen to rap stations. But, I'm not going to tell anyone else that they CAN'T listen, just because I don't care for it. I couldn't care less if it was on the radio. I have the ultimate power to keep it off MY radio, and I exercise that. Very simple.

Now, leave me alone. I have Spiderman cereal to stock, damn it!!!

So, let me get this straight, Rob... people who don't see things the way that you do are automatically naive?

Personally, I think you have a vivid imagination and a tendency to overthink things.

If you are unable to understand why it is important for us to tolerate what we perceive as "attitudes of stereotype and hate" on the radio, then I'm afraid that it is you who has the real problem, because you obviously don't understand that free speech often entails enduring things that we may personally find distasteful.

Name calling... where's the permanent harm? Show me one example of lasting damage to any individual or group that is done by this (and bruised egos or hurt feelings do not qualify as lasting damage). Explain to me how the expression of a negative attitude on the radio toward a person or group qualifies as a legitimate "attack" (to use your terminology). Cite proof that most of the people listening were unable to think for themselves and blindly followed the directives to call Six Flags.

Saying that these things cannot be ignored is like blaming the train wreck because you can't stop yourself from staring at it as you drive by. ::)

Rob, you are an insecure bully of the worst order, and it is you who needs to learn to take control of your own thoughts.

You might feel better living in a PC society where thoughts and words are carefully controlled, so as not to offend you or others - and good luck finding such a place, but I certainly hope that it doesn't happen on this continent.

robaustin....that is where you are wrong. Just because their campaign was "La cucha gotcha" and coincided with cinco de mayo DOES NOT MEAN IT IS RACIST!

I'm puerto rican and in radio and all i see this as is "convience". You have a topic like immigration that affects illegal hispanics but it also affects all other illegal immigrants. Then you have the latin community thinking it is only about them, when its not.

So now couple that with the May Day crap and Cinco de Mayo and that my friend is called "Timing"!

Its a perfect marriage of convience, opportunity and holiday! Its a basic radio formula.

Take something and marry it to something else even though it wouldn't normally work but since its a "promotion" that's the way to make it work.

Again, I'm Puerto Rican and I am and was not offended by it but then again I am not brainwashed to think that every little thing is racism.

Let it go man...it was a GREAT IDEA and PROMOTION!
