Jesus and Sports...at the same time!

Those overnight religious programs have been there for decades, through multiple formats.

The preachers love the fact that the 50kw signal gets into the deep south at night, and they pay a lot of money for the opportunity to do so. Most of them cash-in-advance.

I can't think of any owner who would change that, regardless of format.

It's tough enough to make a buck on the AM band these days.

1530 Friday AM. 2:30 through who knows?

Gotta love Cincinnati radio.

I've heard this happen many times late night. The automation forgets to shut of the ESPN feed or worse it shuts off ESPN, leaving nothing but dead air as I heard a few Sunday nights ago. Heck, 100.3 had a loop of PSA's and promos for Richard Skinner the other night instead of Ferrall a week or so ago. I don't know how long that lasted.

We got the cash or check before the preacher went on the air at every station I worked that had preaching. The sales manager at WPTN (around 1977) stated: Just try to sue a Church in a jury trial. You will end up paying their legal fees too!

When I said 'At the same time' I meant it.

They were being broadcast simultaneously.

I hear this often on 550 but it usually gets fixed within about 5 minutes. It went on for at least 30 minutes or so before I turned it off.

No, I didn't listen to all 30 minutes. :)

Problems like the one you described pop up on every station that uses a computer in the closet not just Clear Channel. It is a problem that only a warm body can fix and try to prevent from happening.

My bosses at Valley Cable TV in the San Fernando Valley won't so smart. Dr. Gene Scott ran up a few thousand in billings before they finally pulled the plug on the dish feeding the channel he leased from us. It was a special one for him as he wasn't on the regular birds that carried most of our feeds. When I left it was still there but unhooked. But I don't think they ever tried suing and likely because of what you said.

The irony being that later on I needed a special dish put in and some of the Doctor's technicians were who I hired to rig it for me. But this one was for another channel. Cable TV makes for some really strange bedfellows. But maybe they did a job for me since they got paid for that one.

I wonder what the Reverend Little Ed Pembrook would think about this. I heard he has a warehouse full of John The Baptist Shower urtains and The World Is Coming To An End Lawn Furniture sets to unload. ;D

1530 booms into Atlanta at night, you can actually hear it at sundown. I don't mind the late night religion I just wish they were standards/oldies again.
