Jet 100.7 audio

Has anyone else noticed that Jet 100.7's audio sounds terrible now? I had a chance to listen to the radio this afternoon and was shocked at how tinny and hollow it sounds all the sudden. Jet used to be the best sounding big signal in the two markets but something is either broken or some idjit GM got his hands on the twisty knobs and ruined it.

In all honesty, Sunny 105.7 actually sounds better now, which I thought was humanly impossible.

How can you judge anyone's signal?
Tropo has been so screwed up around these parts for, what seems like, a few months now.
I don't know what any station is "supposed to sound like" without HD>analog dropouts and/or analog static.

What does tropo have to do with tinny audio and twisty knobs?

LOL

Well, if you're far enough away, you won't be getting the full fidelity on most radios as they will have long since blended to mono and possibly even done some sort of noise reduction as my car's radio will do on weak stations.

And my apologies to Poledo; I dunno why but I never got a notification that he replied to this thread. I'm 14 miles from the main antennas for the area's big signals… it would take some pretty hefty tropo to knock those signals off. In all the years I've lived I've never lost any of the Class C-level signals to tropo.

You haven’t noticed the extreme AM tropo over the last few months? Most mornings no Mobile or a fort Walton stations are audible in downtown Pensacola. I’m limited to WUWF, Cat Country and AM stations. It’s been going on way too long. I wonder if the new translators have anything to do with Itzel?

AM Tropo? Tropo does not affect AM signals (?).

I think he means ducting that occurs in the morning.

Mornings are not a good time for me to be checking the radio, unfortunately, so I tend to miss those good morning conditions. Several days ago I did have my first summer e-skip to Mexico (Guadalajara and León) but that was in the afternoon.

Morning drive time has been horrible for the last few months. The only good downtown Pensacola signals are WUWF and Cat Country. New Orleans wipes most Fort Walton stations out. The Mobile stations and the Pensacola stations on Mobile/Baldwin towers are distorted and sound like dxing.

“Itzel?” After much consideration I believe that word only exists in my mind when I’ve poured a double or triple.

Hahaha, I was wondering if I was not hip to some new slang term. ;)

I think I am so close to all the Baldwin County towers that tropo will never wipe them out. Funny thing is that WUWF, WZEW and WLVM should be the first things to go that are "semi-local" during big tropo but I almost never lose any of them. WZEW once in a blue moon will be wiped out by that station in Destin, but the others seem to hold their own. Maybe once in eight years of DXing, WUWF was wiped out by WMAW in Meridian. But if I remember that one correctly, the HD for WUWF still worked. Go figure!

I couldn’t get a decent signal on a single music station from Pensacola/Gulf Breeze today. Baldwin stations were full of static and FWB stations were taken out by New Orleans.
Talk radio today sucked.
