JILL FM

Well, it's confirmed that 92.7 JILL FM is looking for people for a morning show. What is your thoughts about a Morning Show on JILL FM?

How about switch to a dance music format and call it Energy 92.7 FM?

You know, that is a great idea! In fact, I think no matter what station we are discussing, dance would be a suitable replacement for any format flip. With the track record of the format in this market, what could go wrong? Why not just call the new station Energy 92.3? Or Energy 94.7? Or Energy 100.3?

Man the more things change around here the more they stay the same.

Yeah, I agree. Like, totally.

And the reference to the 92.7 Energy in Chicago that bled money for several years is really nifty.

Hey, where's that girl Buffy? There is a vampire that refuses to die that needs to be staked.

At least the LA boards aren't like the NY boards! Pulse 87 is GOD over there...

OK Twilight Zone moment for me. Right before I accessed this board for the first time today, I had just visited the revised website of JILL-FM. What prompted me to look was a picture of Craig Carpenter (attending Bruce Manning's funeral) in today's LARadio.com. The caption read "JILL/fm's Craig Carpenter" ... On the same column below was a letter from "George Johns (former pd at JILL/fm)" So I thought maybe Craig was the new PD but on the JILL-FM site, Craig was listed as one of the six "Advertising Consultants".

They are still kind of a wreck of a format.

The 1:00 hour today--

James Brown - Living In America
Jackson Browne - Boulevard
Vicki Sue Robinson - Turn The Beat Around
Jewel - Standing Still
Whitney Houston - So Emotional
Men At Work - Down Under
Annie Lennox - Walking On Broken Glass
Eurythmics - Here Comes The Rain Again
Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World
Huey Lewis & The News - Doing It All For My Baby
Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend
Michael Jackson - Human Nature
N Sync - Bye Bye Bye
Glass Tiger - Someday

My wife likes Jill-FM by choice. I am not entrley enthused about the disco and the 80's. But the rule is whoever is driving gets to pick the station. On the good side the commercial breaks are short :)

Heh heh I wonder why that is???

BTW I heard during one of their spot breaks an announcement they are looking for sales people.

Because they don't have any advertisers...;) Jill FM needs to switch back to that Gold-based Hot AC they were running for a while. It seemed to have worked well with the addition of on-air staff. They just added a studio line by the way. Requests anyone?

Hopefully Jack (93.1) won't fall down and break his crown or Jill will come tumbling after.

92.7 has been a frequency for dance music. There was Chicago, Phoenix and San Fransico. I think Big City was broke before they even launched Energy in Chicago, same is true for Pulse 87 in New York. Phoenix was around for a number of years and San Franciso is still operating. Stations come and go, I think any station that has the same format for 5 years or more is pretty good.

Well I can say I liked 3 of those songs. I tend to like Jill FM better than Jack. Jill features more songs that I like than Jack. I also find with these stations they also sometimes play 60's songs. I don't even like 60's songs so I will turn to a different station. I have seen both Jack and Jill play 60's songs sometimes. Jill always seemed like it played mostly songs from the 60's through the 90's. You would hear a lot of 70's and 80's music. Jill isn't Like KBIG 104.3 or the other big variety stations. They don't throw in some older songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's with the newer hits they play. Jill seems to only play current songs sometimes but most of the time Jill focuses on Older stuff.

The music list gets stranger....and 6:30 yeaterday playing Bachman Turner Overdrive...and I swear I don't care what left field research line someone wants to pull up right now, I am married to a 37 year old woman, (Booby V's "bullseye), I know a lot of 37 year old women, and none of them are clamoring are for a BTO song that came out when they were 7.

In the end based on the historical longevity track record here, the station will be up for grabs for someone else to fix this time next year.

This station needs some on-air talent, a tighter and more focused playlist and a better signal. But, other than that.

That request line is for the new morning show that Bob V wants on the new 92.7 JILL FM. I was looking at the SCBA's website and they are looking for a morning team for the station. My question is who are they gonna put in that spot? I talked to Ted Ziegenbusch letting him know about the job opening and he is looking into it. I think he has the experience for the AM drive since he was the AM drive person on the Fish and he use to sit in for Mark on KOST 103.5.

Anytime Jill wants to move to the Bay Area; I welcome her! What's wrong with a playlist that's different? They are actually going for the underserved 40-54 year-old professional. The upper end demo has been getting ignored more and more for the past 10 years. One thing I note about the songs listed in the sample hour are they actually stayed on the charts for an appreciated amount of time; unlike virtually every song on the charts nowadays. Guess Jill-FM management values listeners that actually care about the music (even if only for background in the office) as opposed to those that only want the top 3 of the week. My hat is off to this company for being different by practicing compelling radio rather than being a follower.

I worked for Amatuer-O back in the late 90's and that company has major issues. The biggest problem with this triopoly is that they have a sales staff selling Accounts in Thousand Oaks/ Westlake Village that will be heard in the O.C. and VICE-VERSA. They've always used second rate (and presumably cheaper) consulting and it shows in their playlists over the years. It used to be a place for big-time LA talent to hibernate for a while while they sent out resumes hoping to get back in the fray. I spent 2 years there under those conditions. Anyone hoping to be paid commensurate with their experience is looking for a rude awakening when applying. Bad signal, bad programming and idiot owners make for bad radio.

If Jill is serving the 40-54 year old women, it is by accident. Bob V claims that 37 year old women are his "bullseye." He is not intentionally trying to hit the older end towards 54. THat just means the programming and promotions (the few that there are), are misguided. Besides there are already numerous background music/office stations here. When you get the chance to recreate, I think some of us would like to see some bold creativity.
