Jim Bone On The Unemployment Line??

Radio & Records is reporting today that Citadel has signed a number of it's stations to carry Opie & Anthony. One of those stations is 97-9-X. It sort of looks like the Bone is broke!! Call the orthopedist.

Man, I hope this is not true, or that they at least find a place to put Jim. I only met him breifly, but he does a great job on the air and he fit right in to the NEPA vibe very quickly. Just my thoughts.

Man - I hope they find a place for Jim and Michelle. It's a dumb move by Citadel - O&A bombed before in this area, and bringing them back will just kill off the station.

Also - after O&A's little "stunt" at St. Patrick's cathedral - do you think the heavily conserative Catholic advertisers in this area will want anything to do with this station, let alone Citadel for bringing them into this market? If I was selling for Citadel, I'd be on the phone this morning looking to line up my next gig.

Should be interesting to see how these 2 foul mouthed morons fair in the valley...was it stern or imus who was here then was dropped because the locals didn't like the garbage they were hearing...

I'm from the old school....if you can't do a morning show using your own talent or merit without the garbage, you aren't worth the salt... :)

it galls me that these guys along with stern and imus are stinking rich from this type of programming..and O&A go to extremes that no human being should make fun of....

Let 'er rip ;D

That they are striking it rich is a testament to a large chunk of the listening public. Fortunately we don't have a large chunk if you add up ALL the demos, and the demo that they'll attract is miniscule, nowhere near enough to support a dumbass move like bringing them back...again. Doomed from the start. Who said you had to be smart to run a radio station...at least for awhile? Then depending on your situation you change formats AGAIN or you get s _ _ tcanned at which time following the Peter Principle, you get a higher paying job!

Well the x should do some restructuring to keep Jim Bone, He is by far the best Jock on the station. He does a great show with good numbers. O & P is going ot tank (again) in this market.

Another bad corporate mistake. Jim Bone does a great show! dopie and Antony failed once already.

O&A's current CBS show is even more sanitized than the original WNEW one. I guess that's the deal theyhad to make to get back on to save terrestrial radio. The hook is, if you get the XM, you get the uncensored, pre-dump audio.

And, to the naysayers out there:

a) if they were TRULY that bad, would they even be on XM, let alone CBS?
b) They have a track record. No wonder they're going on all over the place.
c) does 2006 comedy have to be clean/PC/sanitized to be considered funny?

FWIW - just found out that Bone and Michelle's place in the morning is safe. Corporate Citadel had bought O&A for its stations and initally planned to put it on the X, but somebody reminded corporate about how poorly it fared the first time around (as well as Stern and Imus) in this area. The person that wrote the news release never dropped the X from the article.

Z-Talk on 95.7FM BOMBED in this area because Citadel didn't know how to promote it. It was after Opie and Anthony fell apart that Z-Talk eventually fell apart too. They didn't bomb..they didn't have a fair chance in this market. It was radio in the beginning of the 'post-9/11 world,' that was ahead (or behind) in its time.

The 'Catholic League' who was the group after the FCC to get them off the air has forgiven them, and their president actually called in and gave O&A their "blessings" for a better second round. I obviouly can hear them now, so it makes no difference to me whether or not they get on locally, but at least look at events that happened. AFTEr August 2002.

But I wish we had a station with the option of putting on a show like that.. yes the 'X' is the most sensible because of the demo, but there is nothing.. unless you want to replace Nancy & Kevin on WILK. That would be an improvement.

Wondered how they could make that blunder twice.

Far as the guy who said they didn't have a chance. They had a chance. What they didn't have was anyone listening.

And who would listen if nobody knew about the station? Without any promotion, the likes of Don & Mike, Tom Leykis, Opie & Anthony, and Phil Hendrie were all given the shaft in NEPA (Hendrie got shafted to Red Barons baseball when it was on WICK at the same time!). Then when Z-Talk failed after O&A's removal, half the programs they still had rights to got lost in WARMland (including Bob & Tom). A lot of people stick to their normal stations..they don't scan the dial all too often (or beyond presets). A little promotion would certainly have helped. But those days are over. "Hot Talk" (it really can't even be called that anymore) as a pure format will never be tried again.

95.7 also isn't the best signal out there either. The new 97.9 signal would provide good coverage, but at the same time, if O&A isn't going to come to WB/Scr, it would be better to keep someone local on the air (and employed).
