KLAC Country Jock Dies

(June 6, 2014) Jim Brady, personality at Country KLAC in the late 80s, died last night. Jim suffered a "horrible battle with cancer for the past four years," said his friend Chris Moore. Jim passed away in hospice care just outside of Toledo. He is believed to have been in his late 60s.

Jim grew up in Canada and worked radio in Toronto before joining Country KLAC. He worked morning drive when Eddie Edwards departed. Jim left KLAC in 1988 to do Country radio in Dallas. He later moved to KLUV-Las Vegas and his last radio job ended in 2008 in Toledo.

Jim Brady---his real last name was Felton---was 67. He also woked at CFTR, CJCL and CFGM in Toronto and at KOPA in Phoenix. In his final six years in radio in Toledo, he worked at WCWA, WRQN and WRVF. WCWA used to be WTOL and it's the station where Brady began in radio at age 17.

Brady also had stints at CKLW in Detroit/Windsor, WLYV in Fort Wayne, WKLO in Louisville and WBAP in Fort Worth. After he retired in 2008, he started writing a mystery novel about a Detroit DJ during the 1968 race riots. I wonder if he ever completed it.

I did not know that Jim and I shared the same birth name. I left Los Angeles Radio for a Radio assignment with the Federal Government and needed to obtain a 'Top Secret' clearance. The investigator kept on asking me about when I lived in Ohio and he wouldn't stop, I mean I know where I lived and never lived in Ohio. As of today I learned the truth about Jim who also was born and worked in Toledo Ohio.

I was so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Jim during his stint at KLAC! He was very kind, loads of fun to work with and gave me the chance to practice some rather zany characters on his show. I have often thought about him and what happened. So sorry to hear he had a nasty battle with the "C" word. He will be missed.
