Jim Carson Exiting KRTH?

That's what Don Barrett says in LARadio.com today. "At the end of the month" and "according to number of sources." Also says that Shotgun Tom Kelly has left his weekends/"ambassador" role at KRTH.

Not a surprise. The trouble with Jim Carson's type of longevity is that eventually, you're the odd man out in an essentially new station. It's not the worst problem to have and Jim's had a terrific 51-year career in California radio (it's all been L.A., San Bernardino, San Diego and San Francisco). He still sounds incredibly good, and if someone else wants him, they'll do very well. If this is retirement, it could be argued that Jim has more than earned it.

As for Shotz, I suspect the ambassador/weekends thing was simply to burn off the remainder of his final contract. And Shotgun has almost as impressive a record as Carson---48 years, I believe...and, apart from a year or so in Phoenix in the early 70s, all in Southern California (Oxnard, San Diego and L.A.).

Shotgun spent 18 years in afternoon drive on KRTH. The Real Don Steele only had three or four more years than that at all his stations combined (KHJ, K-100, KTNQ, KRLA, KODJ/KCBS and KRTH). A remarkable accomplishment.

Lest us not forget Jim's work with the Drake Chenault organization. When I joined them the month Elvis died Jim was doing something unique in the Industry, Voice Tracking afternoons & other day parts for KYNO-FM in Fresno

This is now the third phase of personalities gone, about 2 years ago it was weekenders, then a year ago some weekday personalities gone, now "Shotgun " and Jim Carson. I knew it was going to happen with Carson a year ago because of the direction the station was going, it would not surprise me if Gary Bryan leaves at the end of the year and we hear more 90's at the beginning of 2017, they have been doing the 90's at nine for several months now and an introduction to even more 90's with an elimination of some 70's music from the mid 70's would be a logical move now.

Im placing my bets on Lara Scott who does weekends/fill-ins at KRTH to be the new midday personality. She has the experience. To replace Jim Carson.

As CBS Radio is preparing for an IPO in a complicated move that will separate it from the rest of the company I see Tami Heidi has been shown the door as well!
