Jim Colony let go from ESPN 1250

"Breaking news" at their site is a catch-all for stories that will be in the next day's paper. They use it to give people a reason to visit their site frequently.

"Interim superintendent picked for South Fayette schools" and "Residents debate Mt. Lebanon fitness center plans" are also on their "breaking news" page.

I doubt either of those stories will be on the front page.

Front page or not, this was still a lot of attention paid to Colony's departure.

One wouldn't expect to see "Experienced DJ let go" get such publicity- rightly or wrongly.

I always liked his work and am sorry he was let go. I have heard him do a very credible job
as a fill-in play-by-play man on Pitt Basketball. To some extent I think he was under-utilized. Hope he was well-compensated for having to play the role of Clarabell the Clown on the old Madden program. According to press reports, The Mouse followed SOP and whacked two young staffers along with him so as to skirt Federal Age Discrimination laws.

sorry to see colony go. when he was moved from the afternoon slot for the super exiting joe distio, i figured something was up. there's not much room for sports readers left in this market. cutting the fat out of a seemingly bottomless pit of money (espn) may be a signal that nobody's safe anywhere. perhaps he could rejoin madden and be his whipping boy again. i thought that act was funny. and, maybe madden could ditch the annoying music breaks on his show. i love madden, but can't listen to the music....california

I agree with everything California said. Jim Colony is a solid though underutilized talent in this market. He seems like a good guy (though I've never met him). He was very good with Madden at 1250. Perhaps they could get together again. I am a fan of Madden but I will not listen to him as long as the X insists on interrupting his takes with their repetitive, uninspired music. I don't need to hear "Jeremy" for the millionth time in the middle of a sports show.

I'd also say that for his sake, I would think Jim deserves better, and is more talented, than to be Curly to Mark Madden's Moe.

Hasn't that bit been played out already?

that's a shame. madden isn't the same with the new format. i don't care that the numbers are good...they would be "gooder" if they dumped the music and let him wing it. he's so different from the other sports crap talk shows, bring him back full throttle. what's the worst that can happen? sure he could choke on some spare ribs or you have to fire him.....right now we are stuck with the "drive" (i know, they have good demo numbers, but it's still a bad show) or joe bendel who just does a monologue over a string and two dixie cups...the other choice, ellis canon, starts to late for my drive home.....california

The point is that no one at CC can afford to find out. I'm sure the only way they were allowed to hire him in the first place was to commit to keeping him on a very short leash.

Rohm trusts Madden as far as he can throw him, which isn't all that far. Madden's producer edits all of the calls and has last call on what makes it on the air and what doesn't. Madden has eventually gone off on everyone else's frequency and Rohm doesn't want to be the latest victim. Can't say that I blame him.
