Many disliked Jim because of actions that were forced on him by corporate suits who look at numbers and not talent. I have worked with Jim in the past and found him to have a good broadcast mind, and a person who listens to both sides of a conversation or disagreement. I found him to be a great leader and I enjoyed my time with him. Ok, I didn't agree with EVERYTHING he did what do you expect? He is a smart man and will land on his feet in a better place.

I have also worked with Jim for many years and agree with most things you said. But, at the end of listening to all sides, Jim will do what Jim wants to do.

Sure, CC forced Jim to do many things that may not have been his choosing. But, I am fairly sure corporate did not prevent Jim from picking up the phone and answering several messages and emails.

Sour grapes? Not really, more dissappointment that someone you thought you had a strong personal and professional relationship with could turn on you that fast.

Hate to see anyone lose a gig and I'm sure he will land just fine. He is a better manager than many. But don't start the Saint-hood procedings just yet...

I agree with Magnet. Let's not look back on the past with rose-colored glasses just because the guy lost his gig. He was by no means brilliant. Some of the many things under the Corwin administration

-The Carolyn Fox debaccle on WRX - bringing her over from PRO against a non-compete. Then the station getting sold in less than a year.
-Moving Imus to B101
-The 93.3 WSNE, Star 93.3, The New Sound of 933, Coast 933, 93.3 The Coast (and just as many format tweaks)
-Air America on HJJ
-All the other stuff on HJJ
-Big John and Cruisin' Bruce out at B101 to bring in Amy Hagan... then let Amy Hagan go.
-Countless support staff let go
-Countless people who left on their own
-And of course hiring Rick Everett away from CTK and then firiing him a year later.

I'm sure there's more... anyone care to help?

Let's not just lump the letting go of Arlene Violet on WHJJ as part of the "All other stuf on HJJ". While her numbers had been declining from what I saw of the "tainted book" her numbers were a lot better than what is currently being aired on HJJ in her place.

Now, for a little SANITY. Corwin was a Wacko! He DROVE WHJJ into the ground. He should
of been fired 3 years ago. He took the easy way out and pretty much KILLED a station that 7
years ago, was a power house.

As for Barbara Haynes, she is very capable of doing the same thing. She's as out of touch as
Corwin was.

Booooooooooooooooooooo

Jim Corwin is the best manager I've ever worked for. Period. As for the radio industry, it is a shell of its former self. Buckle up for a major blood letting across the board at Clear Channel and Citadel in 2009. Happy New Year.

I disagree.
He was an Elitist. My experiences with Jim Corwin was that he didn't take 'input'. But instead of me going into what he was, let me state what he did. Whjj and our problems all started with John Depetro leaving back in 2003 or so. Jim Corwin had plenty of time to fill in the hole. Instead, it was 'Panic City'. Whjj had, for lack of a better term' , a Sham contest, for a new host. We wound up doing the 'easy' thing and going with Air America. Jim was told, by the few he would allow to speak to him, it was a dangerous move. He could of cared less. There was also the 'fact' that he allowed Arlene Violet to run Rough shot over the P.D.s Remember Howie Bart? And that was just one of many. Frankly, Jim Corwin 'chased' away Whjj's listenership. For him syndication was the 'cheap' way out. Take a look at Whjj's ratings 5 years ago, compared to now. Would Anyone call that 'Good Management'? well.. Jim never understood 2 things about radio in Rhode Island. The listener likes local and the listener likes Conservative. By the way, Barbara Haynes at Wpro has the same 'Airhead' mentality , in this matter. Her big thing is getting more 'Women' on air. Haynes is still living in the 70s. Perhaps in her case, Wpro will put Myrna Lamb back on.
Anyway, my point, Jim Corwin is the Harold Raines (Freddie Mac) of Rhode Island talk radio. For anyone not to see that and defend him, somehow doesn't surprise me. Not today anyway.

Be funny if he does land on his feet...
in the market...
on the Trail
Like Ron St Pierre....... How true.........

There isn't place for him on the Trail...with Barbara where she is and then Tony, Paul & Ron next....don't see it. I think Boston is out of the question too...maybe somewhere in CT or Western Ma if he is going to stay in the area...

Someone should send Fraid tapes - CDs of RADIO GIRLFRIENDS, AMAZING WOMEN and all the other FEMINIST CRAP Barbara Haynes FORCED on WPRO. Along with all her ignorant comments as to the content of Talk Radio in general. Fraid , even with his limited brain, would then FIRE HER REAR in a N.Y. second.
As for her replacement, DAN YORKE. He has more BRAINS then anyone else in that building.

Please Corwins a dink I worked at Clear Channel Providence for 3 years and he called me a different name everytime I saw him and maybe twice in my career working there did he call me by my correct name

The market manager not knowing your name can also be a good thing.

I'll put this as simply and succinctly as I can. I never knew Jim Corwin...BUT I have known Rick Everett for a long time. I've also worked with Rick, and know what a great programmer and person he is! ANYONE who has ever fired Rick is a moron...and since Corwin fired Rick, HE IS A MORON by definition !

I know of several others who have fired Rick over the years and guess what? EVERY ONE OF THEM WERE LATER PROVEN TO BE MORONS!

Got it?

PS: If Rick was unable to get B101 and 93.3 working correctly, it was because he never got the support he needed TO do the job!

For Rick to leave Hall for CC. The deal ($$$) had to be there. Its no secret corporate CC sets the rules for all its stations.
While giving some wiggle room to the GM. And very little wiggle room to the PD. Rick knows how to run a station. And is one of the best pd's to work for (so I've heard here at R & I). If he had 100% control of WSNE, WWBB things would of been much different.
